Stephen King has long been a revered voice in horror, and when he shares his thoughts on a genre film outside his own works, fans pay attention. The author is known for promoting projects he genuinely admires, and his latest recommendation is already stirring excitement ahead of its release.

This endorsement focuses on an upcoming Shudder original that has been gaining traction since its announcement earlier this year. King took to social media to personally promote the film, a rare occurrence for an author who typically emphasizes his own projects over others in the genre.

“There’s a movie coming on Shudder in October called ‘The Cycle.’ I don’t usually pump up horror movies (unless they are mine, haha), but this is special. Put it on your calendar,” King stated. Such unsolicited praise from one of horror’s most iconic figures is the kind of endorsement that independent genre films seldom receive, and it’s already attracting new attention to the project.

‘The Cycle’ is set to premiere exclusively on Shudder on October 23, directed by Jordan Downey, known for his work on ‘The Head Hunter’ and ‘V/H/S/Beyond.’ The film follows a chilling narrative where a man’s body, missing for thirty-six years, is discovered at a crime scene, prompting his estranged daughter to uncover his dark, hidden past.

Deborah Ann Woll stars in the lead role, bringing her genre experience from the ‘Escape Room’ franchise, along with notable roles such as Jessica Hamby in HBO’s ‘True Blood’ and Karen Page in Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ series. Jeffrey Donovan, recognized for his role in ‘Burn Notice,’ also features in the film, alongside a cast that includes Gretchen Corbett, Jack Doolan, and Will Hochman.

Downey co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Stewart, who previously collaborated with him on ‘The Head Hunter.’ James Harris from the production company Tea Shop, which also produced ‘Obsession’ and ’47 Meters Down,’ expressed strong confidence in the project, praising Downey’s originality as a filmmaker with the potential to emerge as one of the genre’s next great talents.

‘The Cycle’ is part of a particularly packed October lineup for Shudder, which has focused heavily on original horror content as the platform gears up for Halloween. The film shares its October 23 release date with several other titles debuting on the same day, placing it in a competitive month for horror releases across streaming platforms.

Given King’s history of supporting truly unique genre works, his public endorsement of ‘The Cycle’ holds significant weight within the horror community. For a film that might have otherwise gone unnoticed amid a busy release schedule, such high-profile validation could be crucial in attracting viewers once it premieres.

With less than two months until its Shudder debut, ‘The Cycle’ has already received one of the most valuable endorsements a horror film could hope for.
