The Scarlet Witch trilogy on Disney+ is approaching its conclusion, and fans have been eagerly speculating about the direction of the story following ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha All Along’. ‘VisionQuest‘, a spin-off from Marvel Studios’ inaugural Disney+ series, is set to serve as the final chapter of this trilogy. With Paul Bettany reprising his role as Vision, excitement has been mounting regarding how the show will relate to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This eight-episode series centers on Vision in his human form, as he works quietly at a pub and attempts to move on from his past with Wanda Maximoff, portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen. The first trailer, revealed at D23, depicted a Vision grappling with memories and unresolved emotions, suggesting that his quest for identity will be a central theme throughout the season.

According to The Hollywood Handle on X, and confirmed by an exclusive report from Feature First, ‘VisionQuest’ is reportedly not set to directly connect with the broader MCU timeline. Instead, the series is expected to lay the groundwork for a loose adaptation of ‘Avengers: The Children’s Crusade’, the acclaimed comic series by Allan Heinberg that ran from 2010 to 2012. In this storyline, the Young Avenger Wiccan struggles with his reality-altering powers and embarks on a quest to find the Scarlet Witch, whom he believes may be his mother, while Doctor Doom secretly plots to seize her powers.

This comic connection aligns well with the current state of the show. Wanda has been presumed dead since ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, while Wiccan, played by Joe Locke, has been on a quest to find his twin brother Tommy in recent MCU appearances. Bettany confirmed at New York Comic Con that ‘VisionQuest’ is set approximately one year after the events of ‘WandaVision’.

Adding another layer, the report indicates that a familiar MCU character will make a return by the end of the season to serve as a link for future developments, though their identity remains unconfirmed. Additionally, Jim Hammond, the original android Human Torch from the comics, is set to make a brief appearance in one episode, with more emphasis on the scientist who created him.

During D23’s Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Bettany shared his reflections on the character’s extensive journey, expressing immense joy in portraying Vision as he has evolved over the years. He noted that Vision has been an Avenger, a father, and a partner to Wanda, playing pivotal roles in significant battles. These remarks came as Bettany appeared alongside James Spader, who reprises his role as Ultron, during the show’s official Marvel.com panel recap.

‘VisionQuest’ is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 14, with Terry Matalas serving as showrunner, following his work on ‘Star Trek: Picard’. The cast also features Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, Orla Brady, Emily Hampshire, and James D’Arcy. If the rumors regarding ‘The Children’s Crusade’ hold true, this introspective Vision-focused series could become one of the most significant setups Marvel has attempted on the small screen.

With Wiccan, Speed, and potentially Doctor Doom entering the mix, how do you envision ‘VisionQuest’ should reintegrate Wanda into the narrative for ‘The Children’s Crusade’?
