Disney Channel has nurtured a generation of stars through its original movies, with few franchises capturing that essence quite like ‘Zombies.’ This musical series transformed an unexpected storyline about undead and cheerleaders coexisting at Seabrook High into a cultural phenomenon, launching the careers of many young talents along the way.

Among those breakout stars was Carla Jeffery, who infused warmth and humor into the role of Bree, an aspiring cheerleader who formed a close bond with Meg Donnelly’s Addison throughout the franchise’s three films. Jeffery’s portrayal helped solidify Bree as a fan favorite during the series’ run.

Now, the Disney Channel family is in mourning. Jeffery passed away on September 1 at the age of 33, as confirmed by a statement from her longtime talent management company, Alexanders Talent Management, which did not disclose the cause of death.

The announcement was made by Jeffery’s representatives, who had been with her since childhood. “It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Carla Jeffery, who passed away on September 1, 2026, at just 33 years old,” Carla Alexander of Alexanders Talent Management stated, as reported by ABC News.

Alexander elaborated on Jeffery’s long-standing relationship with the agency, noting she joined Alexanders Talent Management at age 12, and described her radiant smile as something that could brighten any room. Disney Entertainment Television also issued a statement honoring her legacy, highlighting her talent, warmth, and spirit as leaving an indelible mark on all who worked with her.

Tributes swiftly poured in from Jeffery’s former castmates as news of her passing spread. Milo Manheim, who starred alongside her in the ‘Zombies’ franchise, referred to her as the sweetest person he had ever known, while Chandler Kinney, her co-star in ‘Zombies 2’ and ‘Zombies 3,’ called her the brightest light in any room, expressing disbelief at the news.

Jeffery’s journey to Disney stardom began long before her iconic role. Born on July 10, 1993, in Houston, Texas, she made her screen debut at the age of 10 as a younger version of Mo’Nique’s character in the 2006 film ‘Phat Girlz,’ marking the start of a nearly two-decade career.

From 2007 to 2009, Jeffery had a recurring role as Keysha Black on HBO’s ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ portraying a family member displaced by Hurricane Katrina who moves in with Larry David. She also appeared in various television projects, including guest roles on Nickelodeon’s ‘iCarly,’ ABC’s ‘Miss Guided,’ and a storyline on NBC’s ‘Southland.’

Her portrayal of Bree ultimately became her signature role, which she reprised in the 2018, 2020, and 2022 ‘Zombies’ films, and she returned to voice the character in the 2024 animated spinoff, ‘Zombies: The Re-Animated Series.’ This enduring connection to the franchise made her a beloved figure among a generation of Disney Channel viewers.

Jeffery’s family has requested privacy during this challenging time, and no further details regarding her death have been disclosed. As fans and colleagues continue to process this loss, her legacy as Bree serves as a lasting reminder of the joy she brought to audiences throughout her career.
