LEGO PlayStation 1 Set Release Date Price Pieces and Everything We Know
Nostalgia for retro gaming has surged in recent years, with companies finding innovative ways to help fans relive their childhoods through collectibles. Few collaborations embody this spirit like LEGO’s expanding range of gaming-inspired sets, which has already celebrated franchises from ‘Super Mario’ to classic handheld consoles.
Now, this lineup is set to welcome a significant new addition. Sony and LEGO have officially unveiled a partnership that brings the original PlayStation console to life as a buildable brick set, offering fans a unique opportunity to recreate a piece of gaming history right on their shelves.
According to PlayStation’s official blog, the LEGO PlayStation set will be priced at $179.99 USD, featuring a 1,911-piece build designed to closely replicate the console at nearly a 1:1 scale. Once fully assembled, the model measures 10.5 inches, or about 26 centimeters, wide, making it a striking centerpiece for any collection.

The set, officially designated as 72306, goes beyond just replicating the console. It also features a brick-built version of the original PlayStation controller, complete with the console’s iconic design before analog thumbsticks became standard. Additionally, the console lid opens to reveal internal mechanics and two hidden dioramas that pay homage to ‘Ape Escape’ and ‘Gran Turismo’, two titles that are closely linked to the console’s early library.

PlayStation has described this project as a tribute to over three decades of shared gaming memories, emphasizing that the set was developed in close collaboration with LEGO designers to create a building experience inspired by the console’s origins. This meticulous attention to detail positions the LEGO PlayStation alongside the company’s other retro console builds, which have similarly focused on faithfully translating nostalgic hardware into brick form.

The LEGO PlayStation will be available directly through PlayStation’s online store starting October 1, with distribution extending to the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. LEGO Insiders will also have early access on that same day, while the set will be available more broadly through LEGO.com and physical LEGO Stores starting October 4.

Pricing may vary slightly by region, with the set priced at €159.99 in Europe, £139.99 in the United Kingdom, and ¥27,980 in Japan, all prices inclusive of tax. This international rollout indicates that both companies view this as a significant release aimed at reaching PlayStation’s global fanbase rather than a limited regional exclusive.

For fans eager to get their hands on the set, reports suggest it will include a free Astro Bot-themed gift while supplies last, although details about this bonus item are yet to be confirmed. This inclusion is noteworthy given Astro Bot’s connection to the modern PlayStation era rather than the original 1994 console, but it aligns with the character’s rising status as PlayStation’s unofficial mascot.
The release timing also positions the LEGO PlayStation perfectly for the holiday shopping season, providing both longtime PlayStation fans and LEGO collectors with a natural gift option as winter approaches. With the original PlayStation having sold over 100 million units throughout its lifetime, there’s undoubtedly a vast audience eager to showcase a piece of their gaming legacy.
