Robert Langdon has been decoding mysteries and racing against time on the big screen for nearly two decades, ever since Tom Hanks first donned the symbologist’s tweed jacket in ‘The Da Vinci Code.’ This film, along with its sequels ‘Angels & Demons’ and ‘Inferno,’ transformed Dan Brown’s puzzle-solving Harvard professor into one of the most iconic figures in modern thriller literature.

Brown’s novels have sold over 250 million copies in 56 languages, making Langdon’s adventures a surefire audience magnet whenever a new adaptation is released. With the character’s sixth journey now making its way to television, fans have eagerly speculated about who might step into Hanks’ shoes.

That anticipation has come to an end. Netflix has officially started production in Prague on its adaptation of ‘The Secret of Secrets,’ featuring Morgan Spector as Robert Langdon and Rebecca Hall as Katherine Solomon. The streaming service has also shared first-look images to celebrate this milestone.

Spector, recognized for his role as railroad tycoon George Russell on HBO’s ‘The Gilded Age,’ takes on the character described by Netflix as a world-renowned symbologist with an eidetic memory, whose knack for solving puzzles continually draws him into mysteries involving science, history, and spirituality. Hall, known for her roles in ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ and FX’s ‘The Beauty,’ portrays Katherine Solomon, a noetic scientist and Langdon’s love interest in the narrative.

The series will also feature Cherry Jones as Heide Nagel, Corey Stoll as Everett Finch, Rob Delaney as Jonas Faukman, and Abbey Lee as Sasha Vesna. Additionally, Netflix has cast Mamadou Athie in a recurring role as Michael Harris and Ben Levi Ross as Alex Conan, with Anamaria Marinca and Richard Sammel also joining the growing cast.

Carlton Cuse, known for his work on ‘Lost’ and ‘Locke & Key,’ is co-creating the series with Brown, serving as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Cuse expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “The chance to work with Dan Brown to bring Robert Langdon into a new chapter on screen is a genuine thrill,” as noted in comments shared on Netflix’s Tudum.

Published by Doubleday in September of last year, ‘The Secret of Secrets’ follows Langdon as he races against ancient forces and time to rescue Katherine Solomon, who has gone missing along with a groundbreaking manuscript she was developing. The manuscript is said to contain discoveries that could fundamentally alter humanity’s understanding of the mind.

The series promises to blend futuristic science with the mystical lore and international intrigue that have characterized the Langdon franchise since ‘The Da Vinci Code’ was first released. This marks the sixth installment in Brown’s Langdon book series, following ‘Angels & Demons,’ ‘The Da Vinci Code,’ ‘The Lost Symbol,’ and ‘Origin.’

For Spector, this role signifies a significant career expansion, although it won’t interfere with his commitments to HBO. Reports earlier this year indicated he would be able to manage both ‘The Gilded Age’ and the Langdon series with appropriate scheduling, should HBO’s period drama continue beyond its current season.

‘The Secret of Secrets’ also marks a reunion for both leads with Netflix. Spector previously appeared in the limited series ‘Black Rabbit,’ while Hall has credits on the platform including the film ‘Passing.’ Now that production has officially commenced in Prague, fans of Brown’s intricate thrillers have a tangible sign that Langdon’s next chapter is on the horizon.

Netflix has yet to announce a release date or premiere window for the currently untitled series, but the start of production indicates that momentum is building behind the scenes. Given the built-in audience for anything associated with Dan Brown, expectations are already soaring for how this new small-screen adaptation of Langdon’s world will unfold.
