Lee Pace has spent over two decades establishing one of Hollywood’s most diverse résumés, seamlessly transitioning between fantasy epics, sci-fi prestige television, and Broadway performances. Throughout his career, one aspect of him has consistently sparked pop culture discussions: his impressive six-foot-five stature.

This height has become a signature trait for the actor, from his role as the elven villain Thranduil in ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy to his current portrayal of the clone emperor Brother Day in Apple TV+’s ‘Foundation.’ Fans have long been captivated by his height, and this fascination has continued into his latest promotional activities.

In a recent profile with Variety, Pace candidly shared his awareness of his size, delivering his thoughts with the self-deprecating humor that fans adore. “I don’t even always know it,” Pace remarked, “but then I see a picture, and I’m like, I’m a monster!”

This comment arose as Pace discussed his upcoming role in ‘Practical Magic 2,’ the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved 1998 fantasy film, which reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens. In this new installment, the sisters journey to England seeking assistance from Pace’s character, a professor of magic cursed into immobility, setting the stage for a comedic scenario when they utilize their powers to revive him.

This scene required Pace to be completely nude for his first shot, a situation he described with his usual ease. “I’m lying on this bed, naked,” Pace explained, “and the two of them come into the room and do some magic.” Since his character remains frozen during the scene, Pace faced the added challenge of lying still with his eyes closed while listening to Bullock and Kidman’s voices fill the space around him.

Nudity is not unfamiliar territory for the actor. He previously appeared fully nude in a fight scene during the second season of ‘Foundation,’ and before that, he regularly performed in the nude during his Broadway run in ‘Angels in America,’ playing Joe Pitt in front of a live audience.

Those who know Pace well describe his presence as extending far beyond his physical height. Actor Colman Domingo, a close friend, told Variety that Pace’s voice possesses a sensual, disarming, and simultaneously frightening quality, a description that aligns with the soft-spoken, conspiratorial tone Pace used while joking about his own height.

Beyond ‘Practical Magic 2,’ Pace’s career shows no signs of slowing down. He is currently starring in ‘Foundation,’ which returned for its third season this past July, and he continues to expand a filmography that includes Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ as Ronan the Accuser, the recent ‘The Running Man’ remake, and an upcoming role in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.’

Off screen, Pace married his husband, Matthew Foley, in 2022, following years of speculation about his personal life after he was inadvertently outed during a 2012 interview with Ian McKellen. He has since openly discussed his experiences within the queer community, though he generally keeps the details of his private life closely guarded.

For an actor whose height has been a constant throughout nearly every project he’s undertaken, Pace’s ability to laugh about it rather than shy away from it embodies the self-aware charm that has made him a beloved figure among fans.
