Starz has established one of its most celebrated original dramas with ‘P-Valley’, centered around a strip club in the Mississippi Delta. Over two seasons, Katori Hall’s vision has transformed this regional backdrop into essential viewing, earning an Emmy nomination and multiple NAACP Image Awards, including a win for Outstanding Drama Series since its debut in 2020.

Fans have faced a lengthy wait for new episodes. Season 2 concluded in August 2022, and production for the upcoming season was delayed due to the 2023 industry strikes, finally commencing in May 2024, resulting in a gap of over four years between seasons.

The wait is nearly over, albeit with some bittersweet news. Starz has announced that ‘P-Valley’ Season 3 will premiere on Friday, December 4, featuring two back-to-back episodes. This nine-episode season will also mark the series’ conclusion.

The official logline reveals that the narrative resumes as the dancers and staff at The Pynk navigate the challenges posed by a new casino opening in their town of Chucalissa, Mississippi. The influx of money brings chaos for everyone involved, as dreamers, schemers, ballers, and hustlers flock to town for a chance at wealth, testing how far each character will go to claim their share.

Creator and showrunner Katori Hall directed both premiere episodes herself, with new episodes set to be released weekly on Fridays through the STARZ app and all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms afterward. Hall also shared a heartfelt farewell letter to fans, expressing that every dancer eventually must hang up her heels.

The Season 3 cast features many familiar faces from previous seasons. Nicco Annan returns as Uncle Clifford, joined by Brandee Evans, Shannon Thornton, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Harriett D. Foy, and Dan J. Johnson, who will reprise their roles.

The ensemble also includes Gail Bean, Psalms Salazar as Whisper, Morocco Omari as Big L, Dominic DeVore as Duffy, Jordan M. Cox as Derrick, Thomas Q. Jones as Mane, Bertram Williams Jr. as Woddy, Mea Wilkerson as Haiku, and Loretta Devine as Ernestine. Lionsgate Television produces the series for Starz, with Jennifer Arnold, Debbie Hayn-Cass, Kemiyondo Coutinho, and Ian Olympio serving as co-executive producers.

‘P-Valley’ has emerged as one of Starz’s most dependable shows, with Season 2 averaging 11.6 million multiplatform viewers and the series accumulating over 236 million hours viewed since its launch. Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz, attributed the show’s success to its bold, provocative, and deeply inclusive storytelling in a statement related to the announcement.

Hall’s choice to conclude the series after three seasons appears to be a thoughtful creative decision rather than a cancellation, which she addressed directly in her letter to fans. She noted that the rarest honor for a showrunner today is to end a series on her own terms, and she chose to bid farewell with grace, grit, and glitter for Season 3.

The series originated from Hall’s stage play ‘Pussy Valley’, which she developed after interviewing over 40 real dancers during her research before it transitioned to television. A teaser trailer for the upcoming season was also released alongside the announcement, featuring the new single “Homegrown” by Lil’ Murda featuring FendiDa Rappa.

With a confirmed premiere date, a strong returning cast, and a heartfelt farewell from its creator, ‘P-Valley’ is set to deliver the finale its fans have eagerly anticipated.
