‘Heart of the Beast’ Star Brad Pitt Shares Hilarious Matt Damon Mix-Up Story
Brad Pitt has been busy promoting his upcoming survival thriller ‘Heart of the Beast,’ reuniting with director David Ayer for the first time since their 2014 war drama ‘Fury.’ This film represents a significant change for Pitt, as he transitions from tanks and combat to the Alaskan wilderness alongside a retired military dog.
During a recent press tour stop in Colorado, Pitt entertained the audience with a story that was more about his long-standing friendship with fellow actor Matt Damon than the movie itself. The two stars first bonded while filming ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ in 2001 and have since enjoyed a playful rivalry, often teasing each other in interviews and public appearances.
Pitt recounted a humorous incident involving a Postmates delivery driver who recognized him but couldn’t quite place him. Instead of correcting the driver, Pitt decided to have a little fun, telling him his name was “Matt Damon.” The driver, seemingly convinced, responded enthusiastically, “I knew it dude, I knew it!” Pitt shared, eliciting laughter from the audience as he described how his playful deception was accepted without hesitation.

This isn’t the first instance of the two actors being confused for one another, and it likely won’t be the last. Just this past summer, during the World Cup Final broadcast on July 19, a Fox Sports commentator mistakenly identified Damon as Pitt while the camera focused on him in the crowd, only to correct himself shortly after.
Pitt and Damon have embraced this mix-up over the years, often referencing their similar appearances in interviews and joint events since their ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ days. Both actors are Academy Award winners, with Pitt taking home Best Supporting Actor for ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ and Damon winning Best Original Screenplay for ‘Good Will Hunting’ alongside co-writer Ben Affleck.
‘Heart of the Beast’ is set to hit theaters on September 25, featuring Pitt as James Belmont, a former Army Special Forces officer who becomes stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with his retired combat dog, Odin, after a plane crash. The film also stars J.K. Simmons and marks Pitt’s second collaboration with Ayer since their work on ‘Fury’ over a decade ago.
Given the frequent mix-ups between Pitt and Damon, it’s clear why Pitt has chosen to lean into the confusion rather than resist it.
