‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Reportedly Held Three Test Screenings Here’s What We Know
Marvel Studios has maintained a notably tight grip on details regarding ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, especially given the project’s massive scale. However, a steady stream of test screening reports has been generating excitement for months. With Robert Downey Jr. transitioning from his iconic Iron Man role to the villainous Doctor Doom, fans are eager for any indication that this bold move is paying off.
This anticipation began in early spring when the first reports of an internal test screening emerged. According to these initial claims, Marvel conducted a private screening of a pre-reshoots cut for select staff, including studio president Kevin Feige. Insiders reported that attendees were “very pleased with it,” with some even suggesting it could be the Russo Brothers’ best Marvel film to date.
Recently, industry leaker Daniel Richtman added to the buzz by stating on X that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has undergone three test screenings thus far, with reactions described simply as “good.” While Richtman’s remarks lack specifics, they confirm that Marvel is actively refining the film based on audience feedback as the fall progresses.
The early screening reports set a high standard, with some attendees claiming the film tested at a level comparable to ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, a significant benchmark considering that film’s critical and commercial acclaim. This early praise came at a crucial time for the MCU, which was seeking a win after disappointing box office performances for both ‘Thunderbolts’ and ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’
Subsequent reports further fueled this narrative, with one industry insider claiming the film’s internal test scores had even surpassed those of ‘Avengers: Endgame’. This same report indicated that the film’s runtime has settled around 2 hours and 45 minutes, a notable reduction from earlier drafts that reportedly ran as long as 3 hours and 30 minutes before being trimmed closer to 2 hours and 50 minutes.
The latest test screening also reportedly featured a newly shot post-credits scene, filmed just over three months before the film’s release and shown in an unfinished state alongside the rest of the cut. This detail suggests that Marvel is still actively shaping the film’s final moments, a common practice for major blockbusters that highlights the extensive last-minute work involved in such a large-scale project.
The film’s marketing campaign has been progressing alongside these screening reports, with ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ currently playing in theaters and featuring two exclusive ‘Doomsday’ previews, one of which is available only in IMAX and Infinity Vision formats. When ‘Doomsday’ premieres on December 18, it will be screened in Infinity Vision domestically and in IMAX specifically in China.

With such a vast cast, including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and an entirely different universe’s X-Men, Marvel has a strong incentive to maintain positive test-screening feedback as December approaches. While none of these reports come with official confirmation from the studio, they should be viewed as unverified insider buzz rather than definitive quality indicators.
Nonetheless, the consistency of these reports, spanning from an early spring screening to this latest round in September, paints a picture of a studio that remains confident in the film throughout its various stages of refinement.
