‘Don’t Breathe 3’ Is Officially Happening with Original Cast Returning
Horror anniversaries often evolve into more than just a celebration, and this week’s commemoration of ‘Don’t Breathe’ showcased just that. Fans who were once terrified by a certain blind war veteran received more than just a nostalgic trip when the film’s key players came together for a milestone screening.
The event celebrated ten years since ‘Don’t Breathe’ first hit theaters, becoming an unexpected horror success thanks to Fede Álvarez’s gripping home-invasion storyline. What began as a nostalgic gathering quickly transformed into a memorable night that fans are buzzing about.
During this gathering, Álvarez confirmed that ‘Don’t Breathe 3’ is officially in development. He shared that he has already penned a script, and original stars Jane Levy and Stephen Lang are both set to reprise their roles as Rocky and the Blind Man.
The announcement took place at a tenth-anniversary screening of ‘Don’t Breathe’ at Beyond Fest on September 26, held at the MUBI Theatre in Santa Monica. The event featured a Q&A with Álvarez, co-writer Rodo Sayagues, Levy, Lang, and Dylan Minnette, giving devoted fans a unique opportunity to hear from the creators of the franchise.
Bringing Levy back is significant, especially considering how the franchise has progressed since 2016. Álvarez and Levy first collaborated on 2013’s ‘Evil Dead’ before reuniting for the original ‘Don’t Breathe,’ where her character Rocky was a Detroit thief seeking a way out of her dead-end life through one last heist.
That plan turned into a nightmare when Rocky and her friends targeted the wrong house, revealing Lang’s blind, war-veteran homeowner to be far more dangerous than they anticipated. The film’s mix of home-invasion tension and shocking twists helped it stand out in a crowded horror landscape, making both Rocky and the character known simply as the Blind Man into genre icons.
‘Don’t Breathe 2’ was released in 2021 without Levy, focusing instead on Lang’s character years later as he tried to rescue a kidnapped girl, directed by Sayagues from a script he co-wrote with Álvarez. Levy’s absence left many fans feeling that Rocky’s fate was unresolved, which is why the news of her return for a third installment has sparked such excitement.

This return coincides with an intriguing phase in Levy’s career, as she continues to embrace the genre that first brought her fame. In addition to the ‘Don’t Breathe’ news, she stars alongside Jessica Rothe in the slasher film ‘River,’ which premiered at TIFF and has garnered enough attention from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse to secure a theatrical release date of January 15, 2027.
While it remains unconfirmed whether Levy will also reprise her role as Mia in a potential ‘Evil Dead’ revival, the timing has fans speculating about the possibility. With Álvarez back at the writing helm for ‘Don’t Breathe 3’ and two of his most memorable collaborators returning, it suggests that the studio is treating this sequel as a genuine continuation of Rocky and the Blind Man’s story rather than just a cash grab.
Currently, there are no updates on a director, release window, or how the story will unfold following the events of the second film. However, given the rapid spread of this news after Beyond Fest, more details are likely to emerge as ‘Don’t Breathe 3’ transitions from script to production.
It’s time to be afraid of the dark again.

The reunion underscores the enduring affection for the original film a decade later, particularly among horror enthusiasts who have witnessed the genre’s evolution since 2016. Few home-invasion thrillers have left as lasting a cultural impact as ‘Don’t Breathe,’ and a proper sequel featuring its two most iconic characters together again feels like a fitting tribute to that legacy.
