Olivia Wilde, 42, Rocks a Tailored Suit for ‘The Invite’ Press Tour
Some movies enjoy a brief promotional phase, while others maintain momentum for months. ‘The Invite’ falls into the latter category. Olivia Wilde’s appearances for ‘The Invite’ have continued well beyond its release, and her latest outfit reflects her ongoing dedication.
Cinethology shared new images of Wilde on September 28, showcasing her in a gray tailored suit paired with a buttoned vest. Her long hair cascades in loose, lightly highlighted waves, creating a polished and understated look that aligns perfectly with the film’s tone.
The movie debuted at Sundance on January 24, 2026, and hit U.S. theaters on June 26 through A24. Since then, it has emerged as one of the year’s unexpected success stories, reportedly grossing $57.4 million against a $15 million budget.
Wilde not only directs but also stars as Angela, alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. She has been actively participating in screenings worldwide. In September alone, she attended a Los Angeles screening and a 35mm sneak preview at Film at Lincoln Center, followed by a Paris premiere.

The screenplay, penned by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, is adapted from Cesc Gay’s Spanish film ‘Sentimental,’ known in English-speaking regions as ‘The People Upstairs.’ The plot revolves around a couple inviting their neighbors for an evening that takes unexpected twists, revealing repressed emotions and uncharted sexuality.
Rogen portrays Joe, while Wilde plays Angela, Cruz takes on the role of Piña, a psychotherapist and sexologist, and Norton plays Hawk. The film is dedicated to Diane Keaton, who passed away on October 11, 2025. It is a chamber comedy that darkens as it progresses.

The Hollywood Reporter described it as a smart, sophisticated, and incisively acted adult entertainment that critiques the institution of marriage. They noted that it showcases Wilde’s more confident third outing as a director. RogerEbert.com highlighted the film’s self-discovery, while KQED commended Cruz for avoiding stereotypes in her portrayal.
The film boasts a Metascore of 77, with Letterboxd viewers praising it as Rogen’s most relatable performance and calling it the best use of Norton in years. This positive buzz has contributed to its extended theatrical run compared to many comedies.

Wilde has expressed her determination to keep the film in theaters. At a press conference during the Locarno Film Festival in August, she explained that financiers often prefer streaming for higher profits. She stated, “They bribe you” to skip theatrical releases, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
She feels fortunate that her financier allowed her to make the decision. Wilde also mentioned that audiences have found catharsis in laughing with strangers. Locarno hosted the European premiere on the Piazza Grande, attended by around 8,000 people.

The promotional tour has also highlighted her fashion sense. At the Paris premiere, she donned a Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2026 Prince of Wales check suit paired with a burgundy lavallière blouse. Red Carpet Fashion Awards noted they had missed her in tailored looks, reminiscing about her earlier Bella Freud era.
While her co-stars Cruz and Rogen were busy promoting other projects at TIFF, Wilde took center stage during the tour. This allowed her to shine, and her new gray suit continues that narrative.
Wilde has faced years of public scrutiny, particularly surrounding her previous film, ‘Don’t Worry Darling.’ The success of ‘The Invite’ provides her with an opportunity to reshape the conversation about her directorial work. Critics observe that it aligns more closely with the sharp comedy of her earlier projects.
For fans, the ongoing appearances serve as a reminder that the film’s journey is far from over. With screenings still taking place, it may continue to attract new audiences, marking a significant achievement for a modestly budgeted adult comedy.
