Few authors have influenced the modern book-to-screen phenomenon like Colleen Hoover and Emily Henry. Both are among the most prominent figures in popular fiction, boasting dedicated online followings and a plethora of bestsellers that Hollywood continues to adapt.

Hoover’s success in the book-to-screen arena is a significant factor in this trend. She secured seven-figure deals for adaptations of ‘It Ends With Us’, ‘Regretting You’, and ‘Verity’ within just six months in 2019 and early 2020, as reported by Forbes. ‘Verity’ now stands as her fourth adaptation in a little over two years.

Henry has experienced a similar surge. Following the release of the Netflix film based on her novel ‘People We Meet on Vacation’, Spotify noted a staggering 515% increase in downloads for the audiobook.

This shared success made a photo from the New York premiere of ‘Verity’ particularly fitting. Variety shared an image of Henry and Hoover together at the event on September 29, which quickly circulated among book enthusiasts.

Henry’s attendance added an extra layer of literary star power to the premiere. Hoover’s substantial BookTok following has played a crucial role in Amazon MGM Studios’ marketing efforts for the film.

Hoover made a statement in a gold satin gown with red accents and matching red shoes, a look Parade described as striking. Meanwhile, Henry dazzled in a shimmering metallic mini dress and strappy black heels, letting her long, wavy hair flow freely.

The backdrop featuring the bold ‘Verity’ lettering from Amazon MGM Studios completed a scene reminiscent of a book cover.

Parade also highlighted that Hoover, 46, attended the event while managing a cancer diagnosis, demonstrating her determination to be present at one of the most significant premieres of her career. While she has not disclosed the specifics of her diagnosis, she has mentioned that it was surgically removed and followed by radiation treatment.

Hoover originally self-published ‘Verity’ in 2018, and it was picked up by Grand Central Publishing in 2021. The psychological thriller sold over 1 million copies in 2023 alone, marking a remarkable journey from self-publishing to the big screen.

She also serves as a producer on the film, collaborating with Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Michael Showalter, Jordana Mollick, and Anne Hathaway.

The premiere took place at AMC Lincoln Square 13, marking a significant night for the cast. Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett graced the carpet, joined by director Michael Showalter, screenwriter Nick Antosca, and co-star Ismael Cruz Córdova. The festivities continued after the screening at the Central Park Boathouse.

The film follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired as a ghostwriter for the renowned author Verity Crawford under mysterious circumstances. Rated R for sexual content, some nudity, language, violence, and bloody images, it opens exclusively in theaters on Friday, October 2.

Both authors are witnessing their stories transform into major screen events, whether through theatrical releases or streaming platforms. With ‘Verity’ debuting in theaters this week and more adaptations of Henry’s work on the horizon, this trend shows no signs of slowing down.

Hoover has been actively promoting the film on her social media, and the New York premiere provided her with an opportunity to celebrate alongside a fellow author whose works are also thriving on screen.
