Few streaming sensations this year have matched the enduring popularity of ‘His & Hers’. This 6-episode Netflix mystery premiered on January 8 and continued to accumulate views long after its initial buzz. In its debut week, it attracted 19.9 million views, surpassing ‘Stranger Things’ to become the most-watched English-language show on the platform.

The series’ slow-burn success proved fruitful. By April, Netflix reported that it had overtaken Season 1 of ‘The Night Agent’, becoming its 10th most-watched English show ever, with a staggering 98.2 million views. Based on Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel, the plot centers on a news anchor and her estranged detective husband who reunite in her hometown of Dahlonega, Georgia, to investigate a murder.

Such remarkable success rarely goes unnoticed in Hollywood, and the creators are already looking ahead. The team behind the Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson-led thriller is collaborating with Fifth Season once again to adapt Feeney’s next book, titled ‘Twist’. William Oldroyd, who contributed to the original series, will return to write and direct.

Fifth Season will serve as the studio, joined by Kristen Campo’s Campout Productions, Jessica Chastain and Kelly Carmichael’s Freckle Films, and the Bill Dubuque and Thompson-backed Viva Maude. This is essentially the same team that brought ‘His & Hers’ to life. ‘Twist’ is not a sequel to ‘His & Hers’, and neither Bernthal nor Thompson has been confirmed for its cast. No distributor has been announced yet either.

So, what is the new story about? The book follows Ariella, a flight attendant who presents herself as the perfect wife and mother in a picturesque village, while in London, she is the glamorous new bride of a second husband. Then there’s Darcy, who believes in true love until her husband is murdered and she seeks answers.

The narrative unfolds through dual perspectives, raising the question of whether we can truly know the person we marry. This marriage-gone-wrong theme aligns perfectly with what made the first adaptation so binge-worthy. Feeney herself expressed excitement about the reunion, stating to Deadline that it was an easy decision to reunite the team.

Timing is also favorable for the project. The novel is set to be published in the U.S. in February 2027 by Macmillan, allowing the series to gain momentum alongside the book’s release.

Feeney’s works are clearly in high demand. Deadline previously reported that Carnival Films, the producer behind ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘All Her Fault’, is adapting her novel ‘My Husband’s Wife’, while ‘Beautiful Ugly’ is also being developed as a film. If ‘Twist’ receives the same treatment as ‘His & Hers’, her books may soon become staples on screens as well as in airport bookstores.

For now, the big questions remain about who will portray the double-life flight attendant and where the series will ultimately land. Given the success of their last collaboration on Netflix, fans will be eagerly awaiting the next announcement.
