‘FBI’ Season 2 Episode 9 Recap & Ending Explained: Jubal Confronts Isobel Over OA’s Secret Mission
Every long-running procedural must eventually balance personal drama with the case of the week. In recent seasons, ‘FBI’ has focused significantly on Special Agent OA Zidan’s unsanctioned undercover work, a storyline that has sparked intense debate among fans, rivaling discussions about the team’s solved cases.
Season 2 opened with OA deeply embedded in Anna Vorpe’s team, working against Maggie on a mission linked to a nuclear project. The premiere concluded with a tragedy that left OA conflicted, while Maggie adjusted to her new partner, Isaiah Green. This setup paved the way for the unfolding drama.
In the second episode, “Omissions,” which aired on CBS on October 12, the team pursued a complex murder case while OA’s storyline remained somewhat in the background. However, the final moments shifted focus as Jubal followed Isobel to a secret meeting with OA, demanding answers.
The case began with the shooting of undercover officer Clint Mathias near his daughter’s school. Clint was nearing the end of his undercover assignment and took a risk by meeting his 12-year-old daughter, Ariel, who lived with her grandmother. He gifted her a teddy bear and received a bracelet in return.
The first lead emerged from Burns, the target of Clint’s operation, who directed the team to Clint’s former partner, Hugo Reyna, with photos indicating a significant altercation between them. NYPD Lt. Marcus Warren was reluctant to believe one of his own could be corrupt, complicating Jubal’s investigation. Although Reyna had an alibi from a poker game, the team continued to dig deeper.
The conflict stemmed from heroin supplier Cobi Harkes. Clint suspected Reyna had fabricated an anonymous tip that led to Cobi’s wrongful arrest, making Cobi a suspect as well. The team cleared him upon discovering that Clint was about to testify on his behalf.

The breakthrough came from the teddy bear, which contained a hidden microSD card with photos of Fernando Balboa purchasing a burner phone. Balboa was associated with the Latin Kings, rivals of Cobi’s gang, suggesting he had sent the tip. The team subsequently discovered the murder weapon in his residence.
The final twist revealed that Balboa’s lawyer, Tobias Harkes, who is also Cobi’s brother, had been collaborating with Balboa. Tobias sought to broker peace with the Latin Kings while trying to keep his brother incarcerated. When Clint’s impending testimony jeopardized that plan, Tobias orchestrated the hit, leading to Balboa pulling the trigger. Both were taken into custody.
TV Fanatic’s review praised the episode as a compelling mystery that kept viewers guessing, with the critic admitting they never anticipated the brother’s betrayal. The review also highlighted that OA’s storyline framed the episode without overshadowing it.
OA’s arc resurfaced when he needed a device for an investigation. Isobel assured him she would arrange it, but Jubal noticed Ian Liam handing it to her in plain sight. As a top agent with a close connection to Isobel, Jubal sensed she was concealing something.
This led to a cliffhanger where Jubal confronted Isobel about her meeting with OA, indicating that a third agent is now privy to a secret that only Maggie and Isobel previously knew. This raises the stakes for everyone involved, as OA’s mission was never officially sanctioned.
TV Fanatic’s critic remarked on Isobel’s belief that she could keep this from Jubal as naive, suggesting that the confrontation provided a more engaging cliffhanger than yet another excuse for OA’s absence. The preview for the next episode hinted that Jubal would involve the team in a significant and risky effort to terminate OA’s undercover operation.
The upcoming episode, “White Rock,” airs on October 19. According to the official summary, the team will go all out against Anna Vorpe and her seemingly untouchable Strike Team, while OA grapples with the lengths he must go to maintain his cover.
With Jubal now aware of the situation, the question remains whether he will assist OA or escalate the issue. Regardless, the secrecy that has characterized this season is unlikely to persist much longer.
