Mckenna Grace Dazzles in Floral Press Look for ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’

Fashion has always played a significant role in the ‘Hunger Games‘ experience. From the extravagant styles of the Capitol to the meticulously curated wardrobes during press tours, the franchise allows its stars to showcase their creativity. Rachel Zegler, while promoting ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’, paid tribute to Katniss Everdeen multiple times, much to the delight of fans.

Now, a new star is embracing this tradition. Mckenna Grace portrays Maysilee Donner, one of Haymitch’s fellow District 12 tributes, in ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’. This role has garnered significant attention, as it is viewed as the closest representation to the iconic Katniss role made famous by Jennifer Lawrence.

As the press tour unfolds, Grace’s latest look is already turning heads. In a series of photos, she showcases loose golden waves and a side braid adorned with butterfly clips, white daisies, and pink flowers, all set against a soft, romantic backdrop. These images are from the Australia leg of the tour, where she donned an archival Vera Wang lace dress.

Her stylist, Molly Dickson, revealed that the gown is a mauve lace design featuring a greyish ruffled flower on one shoulder and a peach lining underneath. Grace accessorized with jewelry from Chopard, including floral diamond rings and earrings that complemented the blooms in her hair. The silver-set diamonds enhanced her look without overshadowing the dress.

The beauty team played a crucial role in achieving the overall aesthetic. Dickson credited Alan White for the hair and Molly Warkentin for the makeup. The final look perfectly captures the soft and whimsical vibe reminiscent of the Capitol.

This isn’t Grace’s first standout moment on the tour. It kicked off in Sydney on October 14, where she and co-star Joseph Zada posed beside Sydney Harbour with the iconic Opera House in the background. She wore a pale pink floor-length gown by House of Gilles, featuring intricate pleating and an asymmetrical one-shoulder neckline.

Her hairstyle featured a loose braid finished with a tiny pink bow, along with sparkling pink floral earrings by Anabela Chan. Some outlets noted the braid as a nod to Katniss, as Maysilee also sports a braid in the film. It’s a clever touch of method dressing.

Grace has previously embraced the Katniss aesthetic. At a ‘Hunger Games’ exhibition in Paris, she wore a feathered Monique Lhuillier gown, a recreation of Katniss Everdeen’s wedding dress from ‘Catching Fire’. The original gown was designed by Tex Saverio and sourced by Oscar-nominated costume designer Trish Summerville.

Maysilee is a crucial character in Suzanne Collins’ lore. She is a tribute in the brutal Second Quarter Quell and the original owner of the Mockingjay pin that Katniss later wears. This connection adds significant weight to Grace’s role.

At just 20 years old, Grace is best known for her roles in ‘Gifted’ and the recent ‘Ghostbusters’ films, where she portrayed Phoebe Spengler. She has shared her experiences filming the Reaping Day scene, describing it as surreal and mentioning how enjoyable it was to be directed by Glenn Close. It seems the cast had a great time, even amidst the serious themes.

‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ revisits Panem 24 years before the events of ‘The Hunger Games’. The story begins on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Zada plays a young Haymitch Abernathy, with Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird.

The ensemble cast features Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, and Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle. Directed by Francis Lawrence, with a screenplay by Billy Ray, Lionsgate will release the film in theaters on November 20.

With over a month to go, Grace’s fashion choices are keeping the franchise in the spotlight. If this is the standard for the remainder of the tour, fans can expect more stunning looks to analyze.
