‘MobLand’ Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explained: Harry’s Deadly Decision and the Harrigans’ Downfall
Every crime family has its breaking point, and the latest ending of ‘MobLand’ may have just revealed the Harrigans’. Paramount+ has been intensifying the pressure on Conrad’s clan, and the midseason episode that premiered on Oct. 16 escalates that tension into a violent climax. Here’s a complete recap of the events and their implications.
Frankie Cooper, portrayed by Johnny Flynn, has been the family’s main antagonist throughout the season, and the previous episode indicated he was far from finished with Harry Da Souza and the Harrigans. Conrad’s assault on Frankie’s wrecking yard resulted in casualties and a prisoner, further straining the relationship between Conrad and Harry.
This tension sets the stage for “Birdland,” an episode that feels almost like a season finale despite its brief runtime. Harry (Tom Hardy) attempts to gather all the Harrigans at the Cotswolds estate for a family meeting. Meanwhile, Maeve (Helen Mirren) discreetly sends her grandson Eddie (Anson Boon) and Gina (Teddie Allen) on a mysterious journey across the Irish Sea.
Maeve’s instructions arrive in a gift basket in Kenmare, Ireland, containing a firearm and orders for Eddie to visit McMullan’s, where he is tasked with bringing her the head of a criminal known as Medusa, played by Colm Meaney.
Eddie finds himself in over his head, and the episode depicts him watching online tutorials in preparation for the hit. Gina believes they are on a romantic getaway until Eddie confesses the truth. She pleads with him to back out, but when he refuses, she leaves.
Things quickly spiral out of control. Medusa captures Eddie, who reveals Maeve sent him, leading the gangster to threaten him with a hot poker. Gina returns, desperately banging on the window to intervene.
Paul (Emmett J. Scanlan) overhears Maeve’s conversation with Eddie and informs Harry of her actions. Realizing the danger, Harry abandons the family meeting to rush to Ireland, a decision that will have dire consequences for the family.
Harry arrives just in time to kill Medusa and his henchmen with a series of precise headshots. This moment echoes Conrad’s earlier statement to Gina that her father is a barrier against darkness. The episode leaves unanswered questions about Maeve’s motives for wanting Medusa dead, providing little context about his background or any connection to her.

Back in England, the Harrigans find themselves vulnerable. Seraphina inadvertently reveals the gathering, prompting Donnie and Colin to orchestrate Frankie’s attack with Kat’s approval. Gunmen invade the estate, resulting in the deaths of several guards.
Conrad, Maeve, Kevin, Bella, Seraphina, and Paul escape via helicopter, but the family loses its stronghold, with no major character fatalities. Harry’s absence, a result of Maeve’s reckless plan, leaves the house defenseless.
The episode also adds depth to Harry’s character. After Conrad’s assault on Frankie’s yard, Harry arrives at the estate and kills the captive JoJo to prevent further torture, later telling Conrad the prisoner bled to death, concealing his involvement.
In another subplot, Jan (Joanne Froggatt) meets Donnie after Harry warns her that she was recorded. She notices a missed call from Seraphina on his phone, which convinces her of Harry’s honesty. This hints at the extent of Kat’s network infiltrating the Harrigans’ circle.

Not everyone is satisfied with how the siege unfolds. In his review, Forbes’ Erik Kain questions the Harrigans’ lax security and why a significant attack leaves all named characters unharmed, labeling it plot armor. He also critiques Maeve for becoming a one-dimensional villain.
These criticisms hold merit, but the family’s brush with disaster heightens the stakes. Maeve’s recklessness now jeopardizes both generations of Harrigans, and Harry will likely bear the blame for leaving at such a critical moment.
With their fortress lost, the Harrigans must regroup as Frankie and Kat capitalize on their advantage. Harry’s secrets, Seraphina’s precarious role as a double agent, and Maeve’s schemes all promise further repercussions.
New episodes are released every Friday on Paramount+ until the finale on Nov. 20, and the series was renewed for Season 3 even before the new season premiered, indicating that the story is far from over.
