‘American Horror Story’ Season 13 Episode 9 & 10 Recap & Ending Explained
The latest back-to-back episodes of ‘American Horror Story’ deliver a hefty dose of fan service, culminating in a thrilling payoff. The season finale, featuring shocking family revelations and an impending witch showdown, redefines the narrative landscape of the series. Here’s a comprehensive recap of the pivotal moments and their implications.
This anthology season marks the first new episodes since 2024, representing the longest hiatus since the show debuted in 2011. FX and Hulu are rolling out the season in 13 half-hour episodes, with pairs released weekly, leading up to a Halloween finale on October 29. The cast boasts a reunion of fan favorites, including Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, and Joey Pollari.
The episodes that aired on October 15, titled “The Devil Is in the Details” and “The Prodigal Son,” finally unveil the enigmatic Mr. Nas, revealing him to be none other than Satan. In a twist, Constance and Ben are both revealed to be his children.
The first episode revisits Mr. Nas’ apartment, where Constance arrives with a list of demands for the Prince of Darkness. She requests to see his true form, insists on no more nuclear weapons, a female president, and jobs for her two children, even suggesting a role for Tate at Fox News. However, Nas is far from amused by her expectations.
He presents a lengthy scroll detailing her sins, which include the deaths of her maid Moira and her husband, abandoning Tate, locking Addie in the “bad girl closet,” smothering her son Beauregard, and stealing Vivien’s baby. After a surreal dance, Constance proposes to be his Mistress of the Damned for eternity, but Nas reveals a darker truth: he is her father.
Meanwhile, Ben investigates the strange “616” branding on his lower back at a tattoo parlor with Ashley. This leads him to recall forgotten memories of Satanic rituals from his childhood and explains his lifelong fear of the number 13. In the second episode, a younger Mr. Nas, portrayed by Paul Anthony Kelly, reveals to Ben that he is also his father.
This shocking revelation confirms that Ben and Constance are siblings. It also clarifies the anagram in Nas’ full name, Taylor Dorium Nas, which rearranges to “I’m Your Lord Satan.” This clever twist aligns perfectly with the show’s penchant for playful storytelling.

“The Prodigal Son” begins in 1939 at the Vatican, where Pope Pius XII receives a mysterious package. Meanwhile, in New Orleans, the witches anxiously await Papa Legba and Marie Laveau to perform their magic. After some bloody fingerprinting, Papa Legba connects the 1939 narrative to Nas’ sinister plan.
Nas has approximately 13 years left to reach his required age. By murdering groups of 13 women, he can accelerate his mortal aging and arrive ahead of schedule. The coven of 13 witches is his final target, motivated by revenge against one of them who killed his Anti-Christ.
This revenge theme leads to a significant revelation for Mallory. She confesses to the coven that she is the future Supreme and traveled back in time to kill Michael Langdon, a reference to ‘Apocalypse.’ This detail had never been disclosed before, leaving the witches to understand why they are the Devil’s primary target.
Papa Legba concludes that the only way to thwart Satan is to find his son, who will rule the Earth once the Devil reaches 100 and returns to Hell. Nas has already selected Ben for this dark role, promising him total dominion.

The final scene depicts the witches gearing up for battle, interrupted by Ben’s arrival, who announces that they have been searching for him. This sets the stage for the climactic confrontation between good and evil that the season has been building towards.
The ending poses an intriguing question: will Ben accept his dark legacy or resist it? With Constance’s ambitions now intertwined with her father’s, and the coven’s fate hanging in the balance, allegiances could shift rapidly. The remaining episodes promise to deliver plenty of surprises.
