Carys Zeta Douglas Stuns in Sheer Red Beaded Dress at ELLE x Hope Gala in Madrid
Red has long been a signature color for Catherine Zeta-Jones, and her daughter seems to have taken inspiration from her mother. Carys Zeta Douglas is quietly establishing herself as a style icon, and her latest appearance on the red carpet adds another highlight to her growing reputation.
At 23, Carys is the daughter of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. She graduated from Brown University in 2025, where she studied film and international studies. In 2022, she worked as a second assistant director on ‘August’ and has appeared in several projects in 2024. Fashion has always been part of her journey, from a 2019 Fendi campaign alongside her mother to a series of vintage looks.
Those vintage looks have become a hallmark of her style. Carys wore her mother’s black lace-accented dress from the 2005 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to a New York gala with Michael in October 2025 and donned her mother’s pink and white Ungaro dress for her 21st birthday.
On Thursday, Oct. 15, Carys attended the ELLE x Hope gala at Madrid’s Palacio de Santoña, where her stunning red embellished dress caught the attention of the Spanish media. Europa Press reported that she was a standout at the photocall, while Infobae referred to her as one of the evening’s stars.
The gown featured a sheer, floral-beaded design in various shades of red, complete with a scoop neckline, slim straps, and a fitted silhouette. She accessorized with a black velvet clutch adorned with gold hardware, small gold hoop earrings, and styled her hair in loose, tousled waves. A glossy red lip and rosy cheeks complemented her fresh makeup look.
An Italian publication praised her appearance for its elegance and freshness, stating that her entrance redefined the concept of a triumphant arrival. This look marks a departure from simply wearing her mother’s vintage dresses, showcasing Carys’ evolution into a modern fashionista with a sparkling take on the family’s beloved color.
This gala was also significant for Carys as it marked her first event in Spain. She expressed her love for the country, its culture, and history, noting that Mallorca holds special importance for her family. However, she mentioned her desire to explore more of Spain. Earlier this year, Michael Douglas accompanied Carys to the ‘Mallorca, Land of Honour’ awards on Aug. 3.
Carys spoke fondly of her parents, describing them as hardworking and expressing pride in their achievements. While she is not currently considering a career in acting, she shared that the best advice they’ve given her is to believe in herself, admitting that she can be a bit shy.
The ELLE x Hope gala is the Spanish edition of ELLE’s annual charity event. This year marked the sixth edition, aimed at raising awareness and funds for the Spanish Association Against Cancer. Hosted by Eva González, the ELLE Hope Award honors individuals committed to the fight against cancer.
The guest list for the Oct. 15 event included notable figures such as singers James Blunt and Joan Manuel Serrat, along with González, Isabel Jiménez, Almudena Cid, Raquel Perera, and Iñaki Gabilondo, as reported by Europa Press. Previous editions have taken place at both the Teatro Real and the Palacio de Santoña.
The gala has also been a platform for emotional moments. In 2024, journalist Sara Carbonero publicly shared her cancer journey while receiving an award, a speech that resonated deeply with many attendees.
For Carys, the evening beautifully intertwined charity and fashion. Her dress, a nod to her mother’s affinity for red, yet infused with her youthful flair, suggests she is carving out a fashion identity that is uniquely her own. If this appearance is any indication, she will continue to captivate audiences long after the Madrid photocall.
