The early 2000s fashion trend continues to resurface, and few celebrities embody this playful nostalgia quite like Vanessa Hudgens. Her collaboration with Fabletics exemplifies how a star can transform her personal style into a retail phenomenon, demonstrating that a well-timed collection can remain relevant long after its initial launch.

Hudgens first became the face of the brand’s Velour collection, which debuted on December 1, 2021, marking Fabletics’ first lifestyle line. This 32-piece collection drew inspiration from the 1970s and featured items like bodysuits, biker shorts, and wide-leg jumpsuits, paving the way for a more personal project the following spring.

That project is the Sun-Daze collection, and images of Hudgens in a striking leopard-print string bikini from this line are making waves online once again. The photos showcase her in a tan leopard bikini with vibrant neon green accents and tie-side bottoms, captured outdoors by a pool with a garden hose. These images are nostalgic, as the collection originally launched on April 1, 2022.

The size-inclusive capsule boasts 16 pieces. Hudgens began the design process by reflecting on her own early 2000s wardrobe, selecting her favorite styles for inspiration. The outcome is a delightful homage to kitschy 2000s trends and California cool-girl aesthetics.

Prices for VIP members ranged from $9.95 to $59.95. The collection included vibrant activewear sets in prints like Pink Rave Geo and Desert Leopard, casual terry sets in Lavender Lustre and Aqua Blue, alongside tops, baby tees, a bucket hat, and a playful phone charm. Notably, the sports bra features a hidden pocket, while the pants showcase a beach-themed patch that Hudgens personally selected.

The swimwear stands out as a highlight. The string bikini was a new design category for Fabletics, launching just a day after the brand announced its entry into swimwear. These bikini pieces are crafted partly from recycled materials, are chlorine resistant, and can be mixed and matched with sports bras and leggings in the same leopard print.

Hudgens has expressed her fondness for the neutral leopard print with neon accents, featured on both the bathing suit and workout set. She also highlighted a baby pink terrycloth halter dress with a keyhole detail. The collection incorporates soft Terry Island fabrics and patches designed by Hudgens herself, adding a personal touch.

The timing of the launch was intentional. Dubbed the Queen of Coachella by fans, Hudgens positioned the capsule for festival season, with pieces designed for both desert heat and poolside lounging. This collection marked her debut with the brand, arriving shortly after she hosted ABC’s Oscars red carpet show.

Fabletics members enjoyed VIP pricing, with a $50 monthly membership fee applicable to purchases. The blend of activewear, loungewear, and swimwear was crafted to suit everything from workouts to errands, making the bikini feel like a versatile wardrobe staple rather than a standalone item.

The partnership continued with a second collection from Hudgens, launched in the fall of 2022. This 13-piece capsule debuted on October 1, featuring sizes from XXS to 4X, with VIP prices starting at $12, and included darker, fall-appropriate pieces like an oversized faux leather button-down.

Fabletics has maintained its strategy of collaborating with celebrities, as seen in February 2026 with the announcement of a collection featuring Keke Palmer. Hudgens’ collaboration helped establish this model, merging a recognizable face with hands-on design input.

The appeal lies in the contrast between the sun-drenched California backdrop and the playful styling. With a hose in hand, bare feet by the pool, and gold bracelets, the imagery evokes a carefree, vintage summer vibe. This aesthetic aligns perfectly with the collection’s theme of revisiting the early 2000s while remaining contemporary.

The renewed interest also highlights how well Y2K-inspired designs resonate online. A leopard print accented with neon is instantly recognizable and translates beautifully for quick scrolling. Even years after its launch, the Sun-Daze imagery continues to feel fresh.
