‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Final Season Release Date and First-Look Photos Revealed
Few Taylor Sheridan shows embrace their grim atmosphere as boldly as ‘Mayor of Kingstown.’ Set in a fictional Michigan town where incarceration is the primary industry, the series follows the McLusky family as they navigate the complex dynamics between gangs, prisoners, guards, cops, and politicians. Jeremy Renner stars as Mike McLusky, who assumed the role of the town’s unofficial mayor after his brother Mitch was killed in the very first episode.
The series premiered on Paramount+ in November 2021, with its seasons arriving on notably varied timelines. Season 2 debuted in January 2023, Season 3 followed in June 2024, and Season 4 aired in October 2025, concluding with a bloody finale on December 28. Shortly after, Paramount+ confirmed that the fifth season would be the final chapter.
Fans can now mark their calendars, as Paramount+ has announced that the fifth and final season of ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ will premiere on Friday, January 15, 2027. In addition, the streamer has released a collection of first-look photos to accompany the announcement.

The final season will be shorter than its predecessors, consisting of only 8 episodes instead of the usual 10. This conclusion comes sooner than the creators initially envisioned, as Sheridan and co-creator Hugh Dillon had previously outlined a seven-season arc for the series, making five seasons feel like an early farewell for many fans.
This decision is not without context. While the show has been a solid performer, it is an expensive streaming series that has not achieved the record-breaking viewership of Sheridan’s other major works. Nevertheless, it has garnered increasing critical acclaim, with the final season reportedly achieving a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The newly released images tease intense confrontations ahead, featuring Renner’s Mike alongside Necar Zadegan’s Evelyn, Laura Benanti’s Cindy Stephens, and Dillon’s Ian, as well as a displeased Lennie James as Frank Moses behind bars. Additional shots include Taylor Handley as Kyle and Edie Falco as the prison warden, Nina Hobbs.
The narrative will pick up directly from the Season 4 finale, where Kyle exacted revenge on Merle Callahan (Richard Brake) for the murder of his wife, Tracy. The official synopsis reveals that FBI agent Russell Hardy, portrayed by David Morse, arrives in Kingstown in search of the ‘fugitive’ Callahan, threatening to expose Mike’s hidden sins and disrupt the town’s fragile power dynamics.
Alongside Renner and Falco, the final season will see the return of Handley, Dillon, Tobi Bamtefa as Bunny Washington, Derek Webster as Stevie, Zadegan, Benanti, James, and Nichole Galicia. Morse joins as a new series regular, with Nestor Carbonell cast as Enrique Molina, a boss who arrives in Kingstown seeking vengeance for a missing relative.
Behind the scenes, Dave Erickson returns as showrunner, with Sheridan, Dillon, Renner, and Antoine Fuqua serving as executive producers. Sheridan also directed the pilot episode. Production for the season concluded in early July.

For those needing a refresher before January, the first four seasons are available on Paramount+ and Netflix. Given the streaming pattern, it’s likely the final season will take some time to reach Netflix, as previous seasons typically arrived about 10 months after their debut on Paramount+.
This gives fans a few months to revisit Mike’s journey and prepare for what promises to be a somber yet fitting conclusion. Whether the final season provides an escape from Kingstown or reinforces the notion that the town never truly lets anyone go, the countdown to the finale has officially begun.
