Wiccan is one of the Marvel characters that has sparked significant fan speculation. Following the reveal of Joe Locke’s character as Billy Maximoff in ‘Agatha All Along’, fans have eagerly anticipated the formation of the Young Avengers. Each cast announcement and trailer has been scrutinized for any indication of his return.

As the Multiverse Saga approaches its climax, excitement has intensified. ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ is set to premiere on December 18, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on December 17, 2027. Fans are eager to discover which younger heroes will feature in these films, and this question has been a constant for Locke.

Locke recently addressed this topic at the Zurich Film Festival. When asked if he would reprise his role as Wiccan in both ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’, he expressed cautious optimism, stating he hopes to return, but acknowledged that no one truly knows. His response was brief and non-committal, leaving fans in suspense.

Given Marvel’s strict confidentiality regarding casting, this is about as much clarity as fans could expect. Locke has previously hinted at his excitement without divulging specifics. Marvel has yet to officially confirm his participation in either film, and he is not listed among the cast for ‘Doomsday’.

The speculation surrounding Locke’s involvement has been ongoing. In July 2025, composer Steven Sater mentioned during a TikTok live that Locke was unavailable for a trip to London due to a Marvel film. At that time, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was the only known Marvel project filming in London, leading many to speculate about his participation, although Marvel never confirmed it.

Further rumors have emerged, with industry insider Lizzie Hill suggesting a possibility of Wiccan appearing in ‘Doomsday’. A report from September 2026 indicated that Locke might return in ‘Secret Wars’ with a chance to take a prominent role. Additionally, there are rumors that the Young Avengers or Champions could appear in both films, potentially setting up a series post-‘Secret Wars’. However, none of this information has been officially verified.

Leaked concept art from early 2025 reportedly depicted Wiccan alongside the Young Avengers, but the Russo brothers have denied any connection of this artwork to their versions of ‘Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars’. Thus, while the buzz is palpable, concrete evidence remains scarce.

Billy Maximoff is well-suited for a narrative involving colliding universes, given his inherited magical abilities from Wanda Maximoff. This makes him a valuable asset amid multiversal threats. The conclusion of ‘Agatha All Along’ saw Billy embarking on a journey with Agatha Harkness’s ghost to find his brother Tommy.

This storyline is set to continue in ‘VisionQuest’, featuring Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Shepherd, a character who embodies Tommy Maximoff’s soul. A trailer for the series has hinted that Locke will reprise his role as Billy, sparking theories about a potential reunion between the twins. Meanwhile, the groundwork for the Young Avengers continues to be laid, with Kate Bishop’s recruitment and the introduction of younger heroes throughout Phases Four and Five.

Locke has shared his aspirations for Billy, expressing a desire for him to become the next head of the Avengers and to appear in every Marvel project, while also recognizing the larger narrative considerations at play. He has indicated a long-term commitment to the MCU, suggesting a secure future within the franchise, even if the specifics remain uncertain.

For now, Locke’s response can be interpreted as a hopeful uncertainty. Should Wiccan appear in ‘Doomsday’, it could be a brief cameo or a setup for a more significant role in ‘Secret Wars’. Regardless, the character is already linked to ‘VisionQuest’, which is positioned right before the Avengers films in the MCU timeline.

With ‘Doomsday’ set to premiere in just two months, fans will soon have answers. Until then, every trailer, poster, and festival interview will be closely analyzed for hints.
