Few career transitions have been as striking as that of Hayes Warner. The New York-raised pop singer, known for her performances at Lollapalooza and millions of streams, has made her mark in the world of prestige television, drawing attention with her latest photos.

Her screen debut arrived with one of the summer’s most talked-about shows. In ‘The Shards,’ Ryan Murphy’s FX series adapted from Bret Easton Ellis’ 2023 novel, Warner portrays Debbie Schaffer, the glamorous and affluent girlfriend of teenage Bret in 1981 Los Angeles. The show premiered on August 5 on FX and Hulu, with Disney+ offering it internationally.

Now, Warner is maintaining her momentum with a fresh set of striking images. In the first of two newly released photos, she appears in a moody black-and-white shot, donning oversized dark sunglasses and a sleeveless black top, her blonde hair styled in voluminous waves. The second image showcases her sleek and polished look, featuring platinum hair, smoky eye makeup, and a pale satin top with a draped high neck and puffed shoulder.

Behind the glitz lies a tale of determination. Warner shared in an essay for Backstage, “Debbie was my dream role.” She recounted pursuing the part for seven months, even taping a black bedsheet to a Best Western wall in Midland, Texas, during her tour to film her final callback, with her father reading the other character’s lines.

The reward came swiftly. The following day, she received the call to move to Los Angeles within two weeks as shooting was set to begin, prompting her to leave the tour. She has expressed her obsession with the project, and after an initial setback, she even wrote a letter to Murphy requesting another opportunity.

Debbie is central to Bret’s social circle, alongside Kaia Gerber’s Susan Reynolds and Graham Campbell’s Thom Wright. FX describes her as someone striving to escape the confines, secrets, and expectations of high school. As the narrative unfolds, a mysterious new student named Robert Mallory (Homer Gere) arrives just as a serial killer known as The Trawler begins to terrorize the city.

Warner’s on-screen family is impressive as well. Wes Bentley portrays her father, Terry Schaffer, while Evan Rachel Wood plays her mother, Liz Schaffer. Warner has noted that Wood provided invaluable guidance during filming.

The young cast also formed genuine friendships. They reportedly bonded at a dive bar upon their first meeting, and their chemistry was so strong that Murphy allowed them to improvise group scenes, incorporating many of those lines into the final cut.

Warner is not viewing acting as a departure from music. She gained recognition with electro-pop hits like ‘Oh!’ and ‘Zip,’ along with ‘Predator’ and ‘Breadcrumbs,’ and she is also contributing original music to the show’s soundtrack, collaborating with Troye Sivan and Leland.

Her red carpet appearances have matched her rising star. She joined her castmates for the world premiere of ‘The Shards’ at the SVA Theatre in New York City on July 27, followed by a launch party in Glendale, California, on August 5.

With a successful series under her belt and captivating photos circulating, Warner is well on her way to becoming a true multi-hyphenate. The series has been described as stylish, erotic, and deadly, perfectly fitting an actress who can effortlessly embody both rock-and-roll black and icy platinum in a single set of images.
