Few movie campaigns require as much contrast as an action film’s press tour. The stars spend weeks training and fighting on screen, then transition into a glamorous world of photo shoots as release week approaches. For the cast of ‘Street Fighter,’ that shift is currently underway, with Rayna Vallandingham’s latest press photos showcasing this transformation beautifully.

The video game reboot premiered in US theaters on October 16 and has been at the center of an active promotional campaign. Directed by Kitao Sakurai for Paramount and Legendary, the film is set in 1993 and follows estranged fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo), who are recruited by the enigmatic Chun-Li (Callina Liang) for the World Warrior Tournament.

Vallandingham, portraying the agile fighter Juli, is the latest cast member to unveil new images from the press run. In one striking photo, she dons a black military-style jacket with braided trim over a black leather bandeau and low-slung jeans. Her hair is styled in a loose messy updo, complemented by a smoky eye, dark lip, and a delicate pendant necklace. The second shot offers a closer look at the same ensemble, with the jacket open and her hand resting at her waist.

This edgy look perfectly suits a performer who has built her career on real combat skills. Vallandingham began her taekwondo training at age 2, earned her first black belt at 6, and became a world champion by 8. Now, she holds a fourth-degree black belt and 13 world championship titles.

Her journey to Hollywood included a role in Netflix’s ‘Cobra Kai,’ where she played the Iron Dragons student Zara Malik in the sixth and final season. She was later announced as part of the ‘Street Fighter’ cast during The Game Awards on December 11, 2025, making this film her second major role.

In the film, she plays Juli, one of M. Bison’s deadly Doll agents. The character first appeared in ‘Street Fighter Alpha 3’ and is known in the games for her exceptional acrobatic and martial arts skills. Casting a real athlete allows the production to go beyond choreography learned on set.

Vallandingham has also spoken about the significance of her role. With her mother of Indian origin and her father of Dutch descent, she notes that action-heavy parts like Juli are rare for South Asian actresses. She hopes young girls watching her will see a representation she missed growing up, inspiring them to pursue their ambitions.

She credits her training for transforming her daily life. In an interview with The National, Vallandingham expressed, “It’s amazing to be strong and feel capable,” adding that her martial arts training has made her feel safer walking alone at night.

‘Street Fighter’ topped the North American box office in its opening weekend, grossing an estimated $31 million, along with $20.1 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $51.1 million. This total sets a franchise record in the US, surpassing the openings of the 1994 and 2009 films combined, though it fell short of the projected $70 million global debut. The film reportedly had a production budget of $82 million.

Reviews have been mixed, with the film holding a score of around 41% to 42% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, while audiences have rated it more favorably at 79%. Critics have praised the lead performances, the action sequences, and the overall visual style, but have pointed out issues with the script and humor.

For Vallandingham, the box office discussions are just part of the narrative. As a world champion who has transitioned from the dojo to a major franchise film, she is now leading a press campaign with the confidence of a true action star, and her photos reflect her enjoyment of every moment.
