Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has opened up about the climactic moments of ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 and the circumstances surrounding the demise of his character, Alamo Brown. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he delved into the motivations behind Alamo’s actions and the significance of his final stand in the series.

In the Season 3 finale, Alamo meets his end following a violent series of events culminating in a shootout at a strip club. Prior to that, he grapples with pressure from various fronts, including law enforcement, rival gangs, and members of his own organization. Ultimately, he finds himself completely surrounded with no escape.

The actor described Alamo as someone who viewed life as a strategic game. He believed that every move needed to be calculated, and everyone around him played a role in a larger scheme. This perspective influenced how he interacted with Rue and others in his life.

He portrayed Alamo as a character who relished power and control, even as chaos unfolded around him.

“He enjoys the chess game of death,” Akinnuoye-Agbaje remarked.

A significant storyline in the finale revolves around Alamo’s relationship with Rue, portrayed by Zendaya. Initially, he views her as an asset due to her intelligence and willingness to take risks. However, as the narrative progresses, he begins to perceive her as a threat after suspecting she might be collaborating with the DEA.

Rather than eliminating her right away, Alamo opts to let her suffer slowly by giving her pills laced with fentanyl. According to the actor, this decision was deliberate, reflecting his character’s need to maintain control until the very end.

He explained that Alamo was well aware of Rue’s struggles with addiction and knew precisely how to exploit them against her.

“He knows she is weak enough to fall for the temptation — when he puts the pills in front of her, she won’t be able to resist,” he stated.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje also noted an unusual emotional aspect to Alamo’s actions. Despite his violent tendencies, he viewed Rue in a way that evoked a sense of personal connection, almost resembling a fractured familial bond.

As the episode unfolds, Alamo’s world unravels. One by one, those around him turn against him. His own associates betray him, leading to the disintegration of his control over his empire. This culminates in the final showdown at the strip club against Ali, played by Colman Domingo.

The confrontation concludes with Alamo being betrayed by his right-hand man, Bishop, who removes the bullets from his gun, leaving Alamo defenseless during the climactic standoff. Ali then kills him in front of witnesses.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje stated that this betrayal is what ultimately seals Alamo’s fate, even before the bullets strike him.

“To be honest, he was dead before Ali’s bullet hit him, because that level of betrayal killed him right there,” he explained.

He also interpreted Bishop’s actions as a strategic move for power. In his view, those close to Alamo recognized an opportunity to seize control as his empire crumbled.

The actor reflected on the significance of Alamo’s name, which alludes to the historical Battle of the Alamo, known for its defeat. He indicated that this connection was intentional and influenced his portrayal of the character’s final moments.

The insights come from Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s interview with Entertainment Weekly, where he elaborated on the Season 3 finale and Alamo’s last moments in ‘Euphoria’. For him, the narrative was fundamentally about control, betrayal, and the consequences of power as everything ultimately unravels.
