Alexa Demie has shared her experiences from the early days of filming Euphoria, particularly addressing the pressure she felt regarding nude and sexual scenes in the show’s first season. Portraying Maddy Perez in the HBO drama, Demie expressed that she was quite young at the time and uncertain about what she could decline without jeopardizing her role.

In her interview, she revealed that her fears stemmed not from direct comments made to her, but rather from her own insecurities about the industry. She stated, “I thought that if I said no to doing them [sex scenes], then I wouldn’t have the part. Not because anyone ever said that to me, but because I was so young and I didn’t know.”

Since the show’s premiere in 2019, Demie has remained a central figure throughout all three seasons. Euphoria has gained notoriety for its intense narratives and stylized depictions of sex, drugs, and violence, often igniting discussions among viewers.

She also recounted a particular moment during filming that left her feeling uneasy. This involved a montage where her character, Maddy, cheats on Nate Jacobs, portrayed by Jacob Elordi. After filming the scene, Demie realized she was uncomfortable with how it had been executed.

“Once I did it, I realised, ‘OK, I don’t love how this feels,’” she said. When she brought up her concerns with the production team afterward, she found them to be understanding. According to her, the crew responded with empathy, and she was not required to perform similar scenes again after that discussion.

Demie’s remarks come at a time when Euphoria is under scrutiny for its explicit content in its third season. Some fans have criticized certain scenes as excessive, while others believe the show is intentionally challenging norms to reflect its themes.

The report also highlighted broader industry discussions about the impact of highly sexualized roles on actors, particularly younger performers. Concerns have been raised regarding typecasting and the long-term effects on careers, especially for actors like Sydney Sweeney, who also stars in the series as Cassie Howard.

In recent seasons, Sweeney’s character has been involved in increasingly provocative storylines, including her work as an OnlyFans creator and other controversial performance sequences. Industry voices have suggested that repeated sexualized roles can influence how an actor is perceived in Hollywood, even when their performances receive acclaim.

Despite the backlash, creator Sam Levinson has defended the show’s approach, arguing that Euphoria mirrors a highly sexualized modern world and aims to depict the emotional and psychological ramifications of that environment.

Demie’s insights contribute to the ongoing conversation surrounding the series, particularly regarding how young actors navigate boundaries, creative pressures, and personal comfort while working on a show that often relies on shocking and provocative storytelling.
