‘All American‘ is navigating its final season by compressing a whirlwind of emotional turmoil into just a few days, and episode 8 takes a moment to reflect before the finale rush begins. With the football showcase only a day away, both Beverly and South Crenshaw are running on empty, still feeling the repercussions of the ICE raid from earlier this season that has impacted every relationship on screen.

Titled ‘Best Friends,’ the episode embraces nostalgia while remaining grounded in the current crisis. Doubts are surfacing among the Beverly football team about whether the showcase will actually take place, creating an opportunity for Cliff Mosley, the meddlesome booster, to insert himself into the situation. He has a plan to salvage the event, but it comes with conditions that directly involve KJ.

Cassius eventually discovers that the school board’s approval for Beverly’s participation in the showcase hinged on Cliff’s influence and KJ’s compliance. Furious, he accuses KJ of making a “deal with the devil,” prompting Cliff to spend much of the episode trying to convince Cassius to listen instead of shutting him out. When they finally meet, Cliff reveals he has a strategy to help Cassius retain his job, but first, he needs to know if Cassius is willing to cooperate.

This storyline runs parallel to Khalil’s, whose stress has been escalating for weeks. His father is boosting his confidence for the showcase, yet Khalil remains unsettled by the situation with Preach and worries about his future if Jordan leaves South Crenshaw for good. When KJ arrives at the Baker house for a last-minute workout, the tension with Tori is palpable, and Khalil steps in as peacemaker, urging KJ to concentrate on the showcase rather than pursuing a conversation Tori isn’t ready for.

The episode’s emotional core arrives when a very pregnant Olivia unexpectedly visits the Baker house, catching Layla off guard. With Spencer occupied, Liv decides to stay the night at his suggestion, and her timing proves to be just what Layla needs. As Tori drops by to speak with Khalil, Liv overhears enough to get drawn into the unfolding drama, leading to an evening of reflection among the three women as they unpack years of shared history.

Liv and Layla provide Tori with big-sister support, guiding her through their own complicated history with Spencer while pressing her on her feelings for KJ. Tori insists she isn’t heartbroken but is frustrated that her relationship with him never seemed to hold the significance she thought it did, and she makes it clear that she has no desire to be friends with KJ or Amina.

Back at the house, Liv shares that she and Spencer are genuinely happy and married, contrasting with the uncertainty brewing between Jordan and Layla. Layla confides that Elle wants her to leave early for tour and that her relationship with Jordan feels less secure than it should. Liv gently reminds her to keep her own dreams in focus while celebrating Jordan’s success.

By the end of the episode, Tori finds Khalil to express her gratitude for his friendship and apologizes for leaning on him when he should have been focused on the showcase. This small, quiet moment encapsulates the episode’s larger theme: even as the showcase approaches and Cliff’s intentions remain unclear, these characters continue to return to those who have always supported them.

With the showcase just hours away and Cliff’s true motives still uncertain, ‘All American’ is clearly gearing up for a chaotic next chapter.
