Anne Hathaway’s ‘Verity’ Digital Release Date Set for October 27
Few adaptations from page to screen generate as much intrigue as ‘Verity’. Colleen Hoover’s 2018 psychological thriller has captivated readers for years, and with Amazon MGM Studios bringing it to life featuring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett, both fans of the book and newcomers are eager to see how this twisted tale unfolds on screen.
Directed by Michael Showalter and penned by Nick Antosca, the film hit theaters on October 2 after a shift from its original May release date. The story centers on Johnson’s Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling author tasked with completing the bestselling series of Hathaway’s character, Verity Crawford, who is left incapacitated following an accident.
For those who missed its theatrical run, there’s good news. ‘Verity’ will be available on digital platforms starting October 27, just weeks after its debut in theaters. Viewers can purchase or rent it on platforms like Amazon Video and iTunes.
This quick turnaround is common for films that have already had their theatrical run. Typically, digital rentals and purchases are released before a movie makes its way to subscription services, and Amazon’s store, which is separate from the Prime catalog, is the ideal platform for this release.
As of now, Amazon MGM has not disclosed when ‘Verity’ will be available for streaming on Prime Video for subscribers. Based on previous releases from the studio, which usually take about two to four months to reach the service, it’s estimated that ‘Verity’ could be available around late December 2026 or January 2027, although this is merely speculation.
The film has performed well at the box office, opening to $32.6 million domestically across 3,510 screens, surpassing the opening of ‘Reminders of Him’, which made about $18 million earlier this year. Globally, it debuted with $62.6 million and has since grossed approximately $145.3 million against a budget of $40 million.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, with a 43% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 43 on Metacritic, audiences still flocked to theaters, especially as it opened during a weekend when Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’ struggled.

This success adds to Hoover’s impressive track record in film adaptations. ‘It Ends with Us’ grossed $351 million worldwide, ‘Regretting You’ earned about $90 million, and ‘Reminders of Him’ brought in roughly $89 million, all produced on modest budgets and often receiving mixed reviews.
‘Verity’ continues this trend, solidifying Hoover’s status as a box office draw. It also marks a resurgence for Johnson, whose recent hit was ‘Materialists’, and reunites Hathaway with Showalter after ‘The Idea of You’.
A thriller rich in secrets and uncertainty, ‘Verity’ is perfect for a second viewing. The narrative keeps audiences guessing about the reality of Verity’s condition and the hidden manuscript Lowen uncovers, emphasizing the unreliable nature of its characters.
The film is rated R for sexual content, language, violence, and bloody images, with a runtime of approximately 1 hour and 54 minutes, making it a fitting choice for a cozy night in. Fans of the book may also appreciate comparing the film’s interpretation of the novel’s ambiguous ending.

While Blu-ray and DVD editions have yet to be officially announced, based on the studio’s usual schedule, physical releases are anticipated around three to four months after the theatrical debut, likely around January 2027, though this remains an estimate.
For now, the digital release on October 27 is the next significant milestone for ‘Verity’, offering the thriller a second chance to reach a wider audience.
