‘Apocalypse Z: New World’ Release Date, Teaser, Plot, Cast and More Details
Few international streaming sensations have sparked a global conversation quite like Spain’s zombie franchise on Prime Video. The first film introduced a rabies-like virus, a grieving lawyer, and his cat, creating a survival narrative that resonated well beyond its home country. Now, the sequel, ‘Apocalypse Z: New World’, is approaching its premiere.
This new installment continues the tale of a Europe in turmoil, where every supply run could be the last. As the release date approaches, Prime Video has intensified its promotional efforts with new footage and a confirmed date.
The latest teaser begins in a command room filled with surveillance monitors, displaying grainy night-vision footage and a heat map indicating infected activity. A subtitle warns that the TSJ virus is spiraling out of control globally. The brief 37-second clip conveys a straightforward message: “the mission begins.”
An earlier teaser features Lúculo, the beloved cat, amidst the wreckage of a downed helicopter in Madrid. A radio transmission warns of dangers on the cargo routes. Together, these clips hint at a darker, more desperate chapter compared to the original.

‘Apocalypse Z: New World’ will stream exclusively on Prime Video starting October 30, just in time for Halloween, reaching over 240 countries and territories. Prior to its streaming debut, it will be showcased at Spain’s Sitges Film Festival on October 10, during the festival’s 59th edition. The film will then have its US premiere at Screamfest in Los Angeles on October 13.
This festival run provides the sequel with a fitting horror-circuit launch before it arrives in homes, aligning perfectly with the Halloween season.

Set in the Canary Islands, which have become Europe’s last refuge following the TSJ virus outbreak, the story follows a special mission to the mainland to gather essential supplies. A recruit named Roberto joins the team with questionable motives, leading them into a perilous situation filled with hordes of infected and divided loyalties.
As the mission progresses, trust within the group begins to erode, presenting dangers that are as much about the people on the expedition as the threats outside. This setup promises a gripping blend of action and paranoia.
The new ensemble cast includes Carlos Alcaide, Julia Martinez, Monica Lopez, Tamara Casellas, and Santiago Vaca Narvaja. Returning from the first film are Jose Maria Yazpik as Pritchenko, Berta Vazquez as Lucia, and Pedrito the cat as Lúculo. New faces include Axel Medrano, Pedro Hernandez, Javier Godino, Ujin Moreno, and Mario Mayo.
The return of Yazpik and Vazquez connects the sequel directly to the original story, while Lúculo’s presence is sure to delight fans who embraced the cat as the franchise’s mascot.
Carles Torrens, who directed the first film, is back at the helm. The screenplay is penned by Angel Agudo, with production by Nostromo Pictures and executive producers Nuria Valls and Adrian Guerra. The universe draws inspiration from the novels of author Manel Loureiro.
Having the same director return should ensure a consistent tone for the sequel, indicating Prime Video’s confidence in the successful formula of the original.
‘Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End’ premiered in 2024, following a lawyer named Manel as society crumbled due to the TSJ virus, turning the infected into hyper-aggressive killers. He escapes with his cat, Lúculo, to the Canary Islands, teaming up with Pritchenko, a Ukrainian helicopter pilot, and rescuing a nurse, Lucia, along with a young boy from a besieged hospital before making their escape by helicopter.
The film became the most-watched international original movie on Prime Video, surpassed only by ‘Your Fault’. This impressive track record explains the wide launch for the sequel.
While zombie narratives can feel saturated, this franchise has established a unique identity through its European backdrop and cat-centric heart. The new film seems poised to broaden its scope while maintaining the intimate survival focus that made the original resonate. It’s also a timely release that allows Prime Video to capitalize on the Halloween season.
With teasers released, the date confirmed, and the cast finalized, the main question remains: how dark will the sequel become? Fans won’t have to wait long to find out.
