Aubrey Plaza Reportedly Returning as Lady Death in the MCU
Aubrey Plaza is rumored to reprise her role as Lady Death in the MCU. Plaza’s character, Rio Vidal, was introduced in the Disney+ series Agatha All Along, where it was revealed she is the personification of Death. Despite the apparent conclusion to her storyline in the final episode of the show, reports suggest Marvel plans to bring her back.
In a recent Q&A, Lizzie Hill from The Cosmic Circus mentioned, “We’ve heard she’ll be back,” when asked about the future of Lady Death in the MCU.
Even before Agatha All Along was released, rumors suggested that Aubrey Plaza’s character, Rio Vidal (Lady Death), might get her own spinoff series. However, the status of that potential show remains unclear. It’s uncertain whether it was ever officially in development, especially as Marvel Studios is scaling back its productions. With many projects currently in the pipeline, not all of them may actually come to fruition.
In any case, Lady Death fits perfectly into several upcoming MCU projects, especially those dealing with cosmic chaos. She’s not a character suited for more grounded storylines like Daredevil: Born Again, but Secret Wars? Doomsday? Why not?
The first real opportunity to feature her may come with the upcoming Vision Quest series. This show will be part of a trilogy alongside WandaVision and Agatha All Along, continuing the story of White Vision following the events of WandaVision’s finale.
A few months ago, Paul Bettany hinted that Vision Quest is connected to Agatha All Along, revealing that he’s been watching the show to help him prepare for his role in the upcoming series.
