Marvel Comics is gearing up for a significant new event titled Avengers: Armageddon, a five-issue series that promises to shift the dynamics for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

As per Marvel Comics’ announcements and preview materials, the storyline is penned by Chip Zdarsky, recognized for his work on Daredevil (2019), with illustrations by Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz, who have previously contributed to Doomed 2099 (2025) and Captain America (2025).

This event continues the narratives that have been developing across recent Marvel titles, particularly One World Under Doom (2025) and Captain America (2025). It also ties into Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon (2026), bringing various heroes and teams together for a massive crossover. Marvel describes this as a pivotal moment for the Avengers, marking a distinct “before and after” in the Marvel Universe.

The narrative kicks off in Latveria, where Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, also known as the Red Hulk, seizes control following the decline of Doctor Doom’s influence. Ross then extends his power, triggering a global crisis. The Avengers step in, but the situation quickly spirals into a conflict that surpasses the capabilities of a single team.

A crucial aspect of this conflict arises from a significant advantage that Red Hulk acquires early in the story. He uncovers or utilizes a device left by Doom that enables him to glimpse potential futures. This grants him a substantial edge over Earth’s heroes, including Iron Man, Captain Marvel, the Fantastic Four, and Wolverine, who all rally to oppose him. Marvel’s preview indicates that the heroes must confront an adversary who can predict their actions before they occur.

Marvel’s promotional materials also hint at the introduction of a new character during this crisis, someone endowed with extraordinary powers who might be the only hope of thwarting Red Hulk’s domination. However, this new hero comes with a price that could fundamentally alter the public’s perception of the Avengers. The identity of this character remains under wraps for now.

In Avengers: Armageddon #1, the aftermath of recent events reveals Steve Rogers in a coma while Red Hulk continues to ascend in power. As the Avengers prepare for a comprehensive response, the story builds towards a colossal showdown that could redefine the entire Marvel Universe.

Marvel Comics portrays this event as a worldwide war involving nearly every significant hero group, with the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wolverine, and others compelled to join forces on the same battlefield. The company also hints that not all heroes will survive this conflict, and the outcome will herald a new era for the Avengers.
