Marvel Studios has been diligently working to regain momentum in 2026 after a challenging period for the MCU, and the strategy seems to be yielding impressive results. With a successful run of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and a steady buildup of excitement leading into December, the studio’s box office prospects are looking stronger than they have in years.

This momentum is now focused on ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ the highly anticipated crossover event directed by the Russo brothers, which sees Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as the film’s main antagonist. With Christmas still a few months away, advance ticket sales for the film have already become one of the most closely monitored stories of the season.

In a historic achievement, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has surpassed $40,000,000 in domestic pre-sales a remarkable 100 days before its theatrical release, according to Global Box Office. This milestone makes it the first film ever to reach such a figure with so much time left before its opening weekend.

The ticket sales have been unprecedented from the outset. Tickets went on sale on July 20 for premium formats across approximately 1,000 domestic theaters, and the film reportedly generated $16,500,000 on its very first day, a figure said to be nearly double what ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ achieved on its opening day back in 2024.

Following that strong start, the pre-sales only continued to climb. Wide sales were launched to all theaters during Disney’s D23 event, pushing the total past $35,000,000 within weeks and eventually exceeding the $40,000,000 mark, a threshold no film had previously crossed at the 100-day point. Reports indicate that ‘Doomsday’s’ early sales have outperformed ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ by about 65% during their respective first two days of availability.

Industry analysts are already using these early figures to forecast a massive debut in December. Current projections estimate that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ could earn between $260,000,000 and $300,000,000 during its opening weekend, which would place it within striking distance of, though likely still short of, ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ record-breaking $357,100,000 domestic opening from 2019.

The film is set to be released on December 18, sharing its date with Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three,’ which is also tracking toward a franchise-record opening after securing $10,000,000 in early pre-sales. Disney opted not to grant ‘Doomsday’ access to IMAX screens for its initial run, as ‘Dune: Part Three’ holds exclusive rights to that format for three weeks following their shared release date. Instead, Marvel has introduced its own premium large-format certification called Infinity Vision.

Much of the excitement surrounding these numbers can be attributed to the star-studded cast. The Russo brothers, known for their work on ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ are back at the helm, while Robert Downey Jr.’s return after Tony Stark’s farewell in ‘Endgame’ has become a significant draw for audiences.

The cast reportedly includes members from Earth-616’s Avengers and Wakandans, the Fantastic Four from Earth-828, and the original X-Men lineup, giving the film a vast scale that matches its record-breaking pre-sales momentum. With Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing and a confirmed runtime of 165 minutes, everything about ‘Doomsday’ suggests it will be one of the biggest cinematic events of the decade.

Whether this early surge in ticket sales translates into the kind of word-of-mouth success that Marvel needs will only be revealed once audiences experience the film in December. For now, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has already rewritten the record books before a single frame has been shown to a paying audience.
