‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Display Features Doctor Doom Collecting Multiversal Artifacts
Marvel has always embraced conventions to fuel fan theories, and New York Comic Con 2026 is no different. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to premiere in December, the studio has been expanding the universe surrounding Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. This past weekend, fans were given a chance to step into that world.
Doom has been established as the primary antagonist of the Multiverse Saga since his casting was announced. A synopsis revealed at the Disney Merchandise Expo in China described him as a master of advanced science and formidable magic, poised to unleash a multiversal crisis. While Marvel has kept most story details under wraps, each new hint is met with intense scrutiny.
At NYCC, running from October 8 to 11, Marvel showcased a display of Doctor Doom’s lab filled with artifacts from across the MCU. This collection features a sample of the Venom symbiote, Cyclops’ visor, and a fragment of the Silver Surfer’s board. Other notable items include Ultron’s head and Thanos’ shattered helmet.
The presentation portrayed Doom as a collector rather than a traditional conqueror. The messaging implied that he is not assembling an army but rather gathering powerful artifacts from the multiverse. This aligns with the notion that his ambitions are as much about acquiring power as they are about outright conflict.

Each artifact tells a story. The piece of the Venom symbiote suggests a link to the Spider-Man aspect of the MCU, with some fans connecting it to a symbiote sample left in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. This also raises the possibility of Venom entering the MCU during the larger saga.
Cyclops’ visor is another significant addition, especially since X-Men characters are anticipated to return in ‘Doomsday’. The fragment of the Silver Surfer’s board hints at the Fantastic Four’s involvement. Marvel’s comics have a history here too, as in a 1966 storyline, Doom drained the Surfer of his Power Cosmic and took off on his board.
Fans and media outlets have been quick to theorize. One interpretation is that Doom is amassing these items to gain enough strength to defeat the Avengers. Another theory suggests that the symbiote could pave the way for Venom’s appearance in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ instead of ‘Doomsday’, which already has a lot to establish.
There is also speculation that the display could help clarify the post-credits scene of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, which received mixed reactions. However, none of this has been confirmed by Marvel. For now, the lab serves as a teaser rather than a definitive answer, designed to be interpreted that way.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with a screenplay by Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron. The ensemble cast includes members of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the ‘Thunderbolts’ team. It is set to hit theaters on December 18, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on December 17, 2027.
At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel unveiled a trailer exclusively in Hall H that has not been released online. It featured Doom seated on a throne amidst a devastated New York. Fans who missed the event have been left to piece together the narrative from these fragments.

The lab is part of a broader Doomsday initiative at NYCC. Marvel collaborated with Heroes & Villains to create a Latverian marketplace booth inspired by Doom’s homeland, complete with themed apparel and accessories. Together, the booth and the lab demonstrate how seriously the studio is approaching its marketing strategy.
This strategy tends to be effective. Each prop, display, and costume provides fans with something to analyze before any new footage is released. With Doom collecting so many powerful items, the questions only multiply.
In the coming weeks, more teasers are likely to emerge as the December release date approaches. Whether the symbiote sample leads to Venom’s debut or simply serves as an Easter egg, it has already ignited a vibrant discussion. For Marvel, that is precisely the desired outcome.
