‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Presales Are Surging Ahead of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Marvel enthusiasts have been speculating for months about whether the Avengers can still captivate audiences as they once did. The studio’s 2026 lineup is providing some answers, as early presales for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ are making waves throughout the industry.
This summer, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ set a high benchmark, achieving the biggest Marvel opening weekend ever with $360 million globally, surpassing ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ $357.1 million debut. The film has since grossed an impressive $2 billion worldwide.
Now, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is being compared to that record. Box office analysts note that advance ticket sales in various markets are tracking similarly to where ‘Brand New Day’ was just 10 days prior to its release. This is particularly noteworthy for a film that is still over 10 weeks away, set to premiere on December 18.
Timing plays a crucial role in this story. Premium-format tickets for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ became available on July 20, with general presales starting about four months before the film’s release. In contrast, ‘Brand New Day’ opened ticket sales only 45 days before its debut, making this early momentum significant.
The initial numbers have been impressive. According to TheWrap, after just two days, ‘Doomsday’ was tracking about 65% ahead of the pace set by ‘Brand New Day’ in its first two days. Disney’s CFO later revealed that the film had surpassed $50 million in presales three months before its release, with around 70% of that attributed to the new Infinity Vision premium format.
The international sales figures are particularly intriguing. On October 6, Global Box Office reported that ‘Doomsday’ had already crossed $100 million in worldwide presales, while ‘Brand New Day’ did not reach that milestone until about 40 days before its release.
Overseas, ‘Doomsday’ became the fastest film to hit $1 million in pre-release sales in both Brazil and the U.K. In Australia, it achieved over $1 million in its first 24 hours, marking the best opening day for presales in that country this year and the highest 24-hour total in five years. A tracker from Bulgaria also noted that ‘Doomsday’ matched ‘Brand New Day’ at the 10-day mark, leaving ‘Dune: Part Three’ trailing.
However, not all analysts are convinced by the numbers. Some have pointed out that the comparison to ‘Brand New Day’ may be flawed, given that Marvel’s new film has had a significantly longer sales window. In the U.S., ‘Doomsday’ is ahead of ‘The Odyssey,’ which sold $40 million in advance tickets, but still lags behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at $60 million and ‘Brand New Day’ at $72 million.
Competition is also a factor. ‘Doomsday’ is set to open on the same day as Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three,’ a matchup that fans have dubbed Dunesday. The ‘Dune’ sequel has IMAX exclusivity throughout the holiday season, prompting Marvel to develop its own Infinity Vision format. A Disney insider has expressed confidence that the studio can still achieve $1 billion in revenue without IMAX.

Marvel has provided ample reasons for fans to secure their tickets early. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, known for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ are back at the helm. Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom, alongside a star-studded cast including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and Paul Rudd.
The marketing campaign has been equally robust. The film’s trailer released in July became the second-largest movie trailer launch in history and Disney’s most-watched trailer to date. In just one day, Infinity Vision sales generated $16.5 million from 1,000 premium theaters, doubling the first-day presales of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’
It’s important to note that presales indicate intent rather than final box office results. Nevertheless, the trend is hard to overlook, leading some analysts to speculate whether ‘Doomsday’ could rival ‘Brand New Day’ for the biggest opening weekend ever. With ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ already scheduled for December 17, 2027, Marvel has a lot riding on this release.
