Marvel has been working diligently over the past year to regain its footing after a series of disappointing box office performances. This summer, however, marked a turning point with the phenomenal success of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, which reminded audiences of the thrill a well-crafted superhero film can deliver.

As the calendar moves closer to Marvel’s next major release, the excitement is palpable. The buzz surrounding the upcoming ensemble film suggests that fans are becoming increasingly enthusiastic as the holiday season approaches.

Recent figures support this growing enthusiasm. According to TheWrap, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently tracking about 65% ahead of the presale pace set by ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, which opened to an impressive $365 million domestically and over $900 million globally.

This comparison is particularly significant given the timing differences between the two films. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ began its advance ticket sales approximately forty-five days before its release, while ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ kicked off presales months in advance, making the early sales figures even more remarkable.

Disney launched full advance ticket sales for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ about four months prior to its December 18 release, following premium format presales that started around the time of Comic-Con. Analysts have noted that no major blockbuster has ever initiated general presales this early, which complicates direct comparisons, even as the early data remains impressive.

Much of the buzz surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is fueled by the return of fan-favorites Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, whose comeback has reignited interest among both loyal fans and those who may have lost interest in recent Marvel offerings. This renewed excitement follows a period where several 2025 Marvel films collectively earned less at the box office than a single Deadpool sequel did the previous year.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has also enjoyed a historic run since its release, recently surpassing $2 billion worldwide after just three weekends in theaters. With both films on track for potential global totals of $2 billion, Disney and Sony are poised for one of the strongest superhero box office periods in recent memory.

The impressive early data has sparked speculation about how ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will perform when it competes in the December box office alongside Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three’. General presales for that film have yet to commence outside of select premium format theaters, leaving ample opportunity for further comparisons as the holiday release window draws near.

For the time being, the surge in presales has become a hot topic among Marvel fans online, with many citing the figures as early evidence that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ could emerge as one of the biggest cinematic events of the year. Whether this momentum will translate into a record-breaking opening weekend remains to be seen, but the early indicators are certainly noteworthy.
