Marvel fans may need to wait a bit longer to see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man team up with the Avengers. Recent reports suggest that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ might showcase a different version of Peter Parker, with Tobey Maguire rumored to reprise his role as the iconic wall-crawler.

Since his debut in 2016, Holland’s Spider-Man has been a key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His most recent film, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, marked a significant moment by uniting three live-action Spider-Men. Holland, Maguire, and Andrew Garfield shared the screen as their respective versions of Peter Parker battled villains from across the Multiverse.

As the Multiverse faces an even greater threat in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, the film is expected to explore Incursions—events where multiple universes collide, potentially leading to their destruction.

Marvel Studios has already released the first teaser for ‘Doomsday’, but Holland’s Spider-Man was notably absent. However, this absence doesn’t necessarily mean Spider-Man won’t appear in the film.

According to reports, Tobey Maguire is heavily speculated to return as his version of Peter Parker. If this is accurate, it would mark his fifth appearance in the role, following Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and his return in ‘No Way Home’.

Some intriguing rumors suggest that ‘Doomsday’ could open with an Incursion involving Maguire’s universe and the universe of the X-Men films from Fox. This could lead to an epic confrontation between Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine as their realities begin to collapse.

Additionally, there are whispers that Alfred Molina might return as Doctor Octopus. His character was one of the villains Peter helped in ‘No Way Home’, and bringing him back as a potential ally would create another connection to Maguire’s Spider-Man films.

Holland recently discussed the upcoming Avengers films in an interview with Cinemania. He mentioned that he hasn’t yet joined production and acknowledged that Marvel is withholding details from him due to his tendency to leak spoilers.

“I don’t know a lot about those movies, I think by design… I have a reputation for spoiling certain things, and I think the studios are keeping me from the juicy details. But when I do get to grace that set, I’m so curious — you know, what does that mean for Peter? And how does that work? I’m very excited about… whatever it is they’re doing.”

His comments imply that Holland may not have a role in ‘Doomsday’, at least not one that required him to film during the movie’s primary production period.

This could simply be a matter of timing. Holland was occupied with projects like ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ while ‘Doomsday’ was in production, making a significant role challenging to schedule.

Nevertheless, Holland’s absence might be temporary. Reports indicate that both Holland and Maguire could play major roles in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which is anticipated to release in 2027.

If this occurs, Marvel might be reserving Holland’s Spider-Man for the larger Multiverse narrative. With Maguire potentially appearing in ‘Doomsday’, fans could witness another significant chapter in his Spider-Man saga before the two Peters unite once more.

There’s also the exciting possibility of Andrew Garfield returning alongside them. While nothing is confirmed yet, ‘No Way Home’ demonstrated that all three Spider-Men can share the screen, leaving the door open for another reunion.
