‘Bad Boys’ Star Will Smith Stars in New Amazon Thriller ‘Supermax’

Will Smith is set to return to the action genre with a thrilling new project titled ‘Supermax’. As reported by Deadline, the actor has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film, which will be directed by David Gordon Green.

The storyline revolves around two FBI agents who are investigating a murder within the confines of the world’s most secure prison. Smith will portray one of the lead agents, while the search is ongoing for a female co-star to join him in this perilous investigation.

Deadline has revealed that Amazon MGM Studios has acquired worldwide rights to the film in a deal estimated at around $70 million. Rather than a theatrical release, the movie is expected to debut as a streaming title.

Written by David Weil and David J. Rosen, who have previously collaborated on projects like ‘Hunters’ and ‘Invasion’, ‘Supermax’ is set to begin production in mid-August.

This film represents a significant milestone in Will Smith’s career comeback. Following the controversy surrounding the Oscars incident in 2022, Smith has primarily been involved with franchise films. His latest success, ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’, performed well at the box office, reaffirming that audiences still flock to his action-packed roles.

David Gordon Green brings a wealth of experience in the thriller and horror genres to the project. He has directed several ‘Halloween’ films and recently worked on the Amazon series ‘Scarpetta’. ‘Supermax’ is anticipated to be the highest-budget film of his career to date.

The project boasts a strong lineup of producers, including Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman from The Picture Company, alongside Will Smith and Adam Fishbach from Westbrook Studios. Deadline also noted that Amazon acted swiftly to secure the project before it could officially enter the Cannes market.

With its high-security prison setting, the story promises an intense and gripping atmosphere. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the combination of FBI agents, a murder mystery, and prison action is already generating excitement online.
