‘Hacks’ Star Hannah Einbinder Teases Emotional Finale Ahead
Hannah Einbinder is gearing up fans for a poignant conclusion to Hacks as the acclaimed comedy approaches its final episodes.
In a discussion at the Kering Women in Motion Talks at Cannes, the actress reflected on her journey portraying Ava Daniels in the HBO series. As reported by Variety, Einbinder expressed that bidding farewell to the character has been an emotionally challenging experience.
When asked to summarize the Hacks finale in a single word, Einbinder responded with just one: “Pain.”
She further shared her struggle to part with Ava, having spent years embodying the character. “I’ve been wearing all of her clothes like a deceased relative,” she remarked, discussing the emotional journey of concluding the show. “I love her.”
The final season of Hacks is currently airing, marking the conclusion of the relationship between Ava and Deborah Vance, portrayed by Jean Smart. Throughout the series, the duo evolved from frequent clashes to establishing one of television’s most intricate and heartfelt partnerships.
Einbinder also spoke about her collaboration with Jean Smart throughout the series, highlighting how significant the experience has been for her career. Their chemistry has been a major factor in the HBO comedy’s strong connection with both audiences and critics.

Beyond Hacks, Einbinder attended Cannes to promote her new film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, directed by Jane Schoenbrun. During the event, she explored the movie’s themes of identity, sexuality, and discomfort, while also addressing political issues and Hollywood activism.
However, it was her remarks about Hacks that resonated most with fans, particularly her caution that the finale may evoke strong emotions. With only a handful of episodes remaining, viewers are bracing for a heavy and potentially heartbreaking conclusion to Ava and Deborah’s narrative.
