Jordana Brewster Advocates for More Focus on Mia in ‘Fast & Furious’ Franchise
Jordana Brewster is advocating for the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise to delve deeper into Mia Toretto’s role as a mother, particularly if the series continues with a final film or one of the upcoming TV spinoffs.
In discussions with reporters about the franchise’s future, Brewster expressed her desire to see a more authentic and emotional portrayal of Mia’s family life.
Mia has been a staple of the series since the original 2001 film ‘The Fast and the Furious.’ As Dominic Toretto’s younger sister and the longtime partner of Brian O’Conner, portrayed by Paul Walker, Mia has evolved into a crucial member of the crew, often serving as the calm presence amid the chaos.
Despite her numerous appearances, Mia’s journey as a parent has largely remained in the background. Brewster believes there are untold stories to explore, especially now that Mia’s children are growing up.
“There is something so hard about parenting boys. I’d love to see how she handles that, especially with all this gentle parenting. I’d love to see Mia lose her stuff on her boys. Just a hardcore, stripped mom dealing with teenagers.”
Brewster’s remarks come as Universal expands the ‘Fast & Furious’ universe beyond the films. In May 2026, Vin Diesel announced that four live-action ‘Fast & Furious’ TV series are in various stages of development for Peacock. Diesel stated that the studio is crafting several new narratives tied to the franchise.
The first planned series will be helmed by showrunners Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman. Universal has also enlisted Nick Wootton and Charmaine DeGraté, Ingrid Escajeda, and Joe Henderson to write pilot episodes for three additional projects.
These new series could pave the way for more character-driven stories, including one focused on Mia and her family life. While the films are renowned for their action sequences, car chases, and global missions, Brewster’s vision would shift the narrative back to a more personal level.
Mia has consistently served as one of the emotional anchors of the franchise. She has supported Dom through family disputes, aided Brian in leaving law enforcement, and remained connected to the crew even after Walker’s passing altered the series’ trajectory. A spinoff centered on her experiences as a mother could reveal a markedly different facet of the ‘Fast & Furious’ universe than what fans typically witness on screen.
