Warner Bros. Animation has been on an impressive journey, carefully adapting some of Batman’s most iconic comic book narratives into a series of direct-to-digital films. Following the conclusion of the Tomorrowverse and the ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths’ trilogy, the studio has now turned its focus to one of the character’s most notorious sagas.

This saga is ‘Knightfall,’ the expansive 1990s comic event where Bane physically breaks Batman, leading to Jean-Paul Valley stepping in as his unpredictable successor. Warner Bros. Animation has transformed this storyline into a three-part film trilogy, starting with ‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1,’ which debuted to positive reviews at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June before its digital release on August 25.

Fans can now mark their calendars, as ‘Batman: Knightfall Part 2’ is set to unveil its first trailer on September 19, coinciding perfectly with Batman Day. Pre-orders for the film will also open at the same time as the trailer’s release.

Part 2, likely titled ‘Knightquest,’ continues the narrative from the first film, exploring Jean-Paul Valley’s challenging choice to assume the Batman mantle after Bruce Wayne’s defeat by Bane. Instead of prolonging the Bane-Batman conflict that characterized the initial installment, this chapter is anticipated to delve into themes of identity, responsibility, and the repercussions of embracing another’s legacy.

This thematic shift closely mirrors the original comic storyline, where Valley’s increasingly radical methods as Batman created significant tension within Gotham’s vigilante community, setting the stage for Bruce Wayne’s eventual return in the trilogy’s final chapter.

Warner Bros. and DC have confirmed that Part 2 is slated for release later in 2026, with the trilogy’s concluding segment, ‘Batman: Knightfall Part 3 – KnightsEnd,’ expected to follow in early 2027. This timeline suggests a notably swift pace for the overall project compared to some of the studio’s previous multi-part releases.

For context, the ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths’ trilogy experienced roughly three months between its first and second installments, and a similar gap between its second and third parts. If ‘Knightfall’ adheres to a similar schedule, Part 2 could realistically premiere around December, although Warner Bros. has yet to confirm an exact release date beyond the newly announced September 19 trailer launch.

‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1’ is still available for digital purchase, and physical media editions on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD were released on September 8. Currently, there is no confirmed HBO Max streaming date for the film, meaning fans looking to revisit or catch up before Part 2 arrives will need to rely on digital retailers for now.

The trilogy encompasses approximately 119 comic issues across its three major story arcs, making it one of the most ambitious adaptation undertakings Warner Bros. Animation has pursued in recent years. Given the scale of the source material, the studio’s choice to divide the story into three separate films seems designed to allow each phase of Batman’s fall and eventual return the space it needs to develop.

With Batman Day being one of the character’s most significant annual celebrations, aligning the ‘Knightquest’ trailer release with this occasion underscores the importance Warner Bros. places on this trilogy. Fans eager to secure early access to the film will have the opportunity to do so the moment the trailer drops on September 19.
