Bill Maher targeted President Donald Trump’s upcoming Freedom 250 concert during the latest episode of HBO’s ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’, making the event a focal point of his opening monologue.

This concert series is part of the celebrations for America’s 250th birthday. It is set to take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., featuring various music acts over multiple days. However, reports indicate that the event has already encountered several challenges, with numerous performers reportedly withdrawing from the lineup.

In his monologue, Maher humorously critiqued the artists initially announced for the celebration and questioned the event’s overall appeal.

“We’re having a 250th birthday party for America. A concert,” Maher told his audience. “They announced the lineup: Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Morris Day, Bret Michaels. I think this is very admirable about the president — it shows that he’s concerned for the unemployed.”

The comedian continued to poke fun at the situation after reports emerged that several performers had decided not to participate. Artists such as Bret Michaels, The Commodores, Young MC, Morris Day and the Time, and members associated with Milli Vanilli have reportedly stepped away from the concert.

Country singer Martina McBride also announced her withdrawal. In a statement on social media, McBride expressed that she initially believed she was invited to perform at a nonpartisan celebration.

“I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading,” she stated.

Maher seized on these developments for more comedic material.

“And then, after they announced this all-star lineup, a lot of them said, ‘No, what are you talking about? We’re not playing,’” he quipped. “That’s got to hurt a lot when you can’t close the deal with Milli Vanilli.”

Despite the withdrawals, some performers are still expected to participate in the concert series. Reports suggest that Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida, and Fab Morvan, one of the original faces of Milli Vanilli, are still attached to the event.

Maher didn’t stop there. Later in his monologue, he shifted focus to reports about a commemorative $250 bill featuring Trump’s image.

He used this story as another punchline during his segment.

“Here’s something in the category of wow, we never used to be this country: They’re putting out a $250 bill with Trump’s face on it,” Maher remarked. “I guess it’s commemorative. Republicans in Congress are thrilled about it. They can’t wait to carry it in their wallet. What a switcheroo: having Trump’s face next to their ass.”

The Freedom 250 concert series is scheduled to run from June 25 through July 10 as part of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebrations. While organizers continue their preparations, the event has drawn attention not only for its planned performances but also for the increasing number of artists distancing themselves from it.

Maher’s comments quickly became one of the most discussed moments from Friday night’s episode, adding yet another chapter to his ongoing critique of Trump and the political figures who support him.
