‘Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’ Part 4, Episode 9 Release Date and Where to Watch
Fans following ‘Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’ have encountered an unexpected twist as the anime approaches its conclusion. The much-anticipated episode, originally set to air this weekend, has been postponed, extending the wait for the next chapter of Ichigo Kurosaki’s battle against Yhwach into next month.
This change comes at a peculiar time for ‘The Calamity,’ the fourth and final cour of the series, especially after Episode 48 aired and the momentum towards the finale felt stronger than ever.
According to the production committee behind the anime, Episode 49, which corresponds to Episode 9 of ‘The Calamity,’ will no longer debut on its previously scheduled date. The committee announced that Episodes 49 and 50 have been delayed to Monday, October 19, and Monday, October 26, respectively, at 24:00, which means midnight the following day.

Episode 48, titled THE END TWO WORLD, aired on the evening of the 12th, bringing the final battle arc closer to its conclusion before the delay was announced. The timing caught fans off guard given how close the story had gotten to its climactic stretch.
Episode 49 will air on TV Tokyo on October 19 and on BS TV Tokyo on October 20, while Episode 50 will air on TV Tokyo on October 26 and on BS TV Tokyo on October 27. Streaming for Episode 49 begins October 20, with Episode 50 following on October 27.
The committee explained that the staff is enhancing the quality of the anime as it approaches its climax. The goal is to elevate the quality of the concluding episodes and deliver the series in the best form possible through to the final episode.
The official statement expressed gratitude to viewers for their ongoing support and clarified that the adjustment was made to properly build up to the story’s climax and improve production quality, ensuring everyone can experience the content through to the final episode in the best possible form. The message also included a direct apology to fans for the extended wait.
The official Bleach account confirmed that the additional time is specifically being utilized to enhance the animation quality of the final two episodes. Given the visually ambitious nature of the climactic battle between Ichigo and Yhwach, this explanation has resonated with many viewers, even if the timing is disappointing.
Reactions have been mixed, with fans expressing extreme upset and disappointment over the already short ten-episode run for the final season. However, many still prefer a one-month delay over pushing the animation staff into overwork. This sentiment echoes concerns raised elsewhere in the industry when studios rush finales without adequate production time.
To fill the gap in the schedule, TV Tokyo will air reruns directly tied to the story leading up to the finale. A Climax Selection block will feature earlier episodes, with Episode 7 airing September 19, Episode 28 on September 26, Episode 46 on October 5, and Episode 48 on October 12.
This selection revisits the confrontation between Ichigo Kurosaki and Yhwach before their final battle, providing audiences with a refresher on the stakes heading into the last two episodes. It signals that the production team wants viewers re-engaged with the central conflict before the story resumes.
‘The Calamity’ is the fourth and final part of the ‘Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’ anime, adapting the remaining chapters of the original manga through its conclusion, covering the arc that spans volumes 55 through 74 of the source material.
Hulu streams the series in the United States, while Disney Plus carries it in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and many other territories. This streaming arrangement has remained consistent since ‘The Calamity’ began.
‘The Calamity’ started airing on July 25, with Pierrot Films handling the animation for the final cour. The delay marks the first significant disruption to that schedule since the season’s premiere, making it a noteworthy moment in an otherwise steady release run.
As ‘Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’ nears the conclusion of Tite Kubo’s story, do you think the extra month for Episodes 49 and 50 will be worthwhile once Ichigo and Yhwach’s fight finally reaches its climax?
