Charlize Theron’s Clea Is Reportedly Returning for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Marvel’s multiverse saga has spent years introducing characters and storylines that have yet to receive the follow-through fans anticipated, leaving several loose ends scattered throughout recent phases of the franchise. Among these threads, one particularly intriguing cameo from a few years back has sparked ongoing speculation.
That cameo featured Charlize Theron, who made her Marvel debut in a brief but significant mid-credits scene, hinting at larger plans ahead, even if Marvel took its time to act on them. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news on when, or if, that storyline would be revisited.
According to a recent report, the answer may finally be on the horizon. Theron is reportedly set to reprise her role as Clea in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ with the update coming from industry insider Daniel Richtman, known for his reliable Marvel production leaks throughout the film’s extensive shoot.
Theron’s Clea first appeared in the mid-credits scene of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ where she confronted Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange about the multiversal chaos his actions had caused before pulling him into the Dark Dimension to help resolve it. This pivotal moment set the stage for the Incursion-driven storyline that is now said to be central to ‘Doomsday,’ with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom reportedly on the hunt for those responsible for the multiverse’s fractures.

This isn’t the first time Theron’s involvement in the film has been speculated. Rumors about Clea’s return have circulated since early 2025, when various industry sources hinted that both Theron and Cumberbatch could be part of the expansive ensemble project, despite neither actor being included in Marvel’s initial cast announcement featuring over twenty-five names.
Theron has remained characteristically tight-lipped about her character’s future. In 2023, she told journalist Josh Horowitz that Marvel hadn’t contacted her, joking, “No, I’m not lying. I haven’t got a call, is that bad?” More recently, while promoting Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ in May, she sidestepped a direct question about the film, telling Elle she was simply “not the person to ask.”
The new report aligns with recent news that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has completed its additional photography, with reshoots reportedly including key sequences involving Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, among other unconfirmed names. If accurate, Theron’s scenes may have been filmed during this late-stage production phase rather than during the main shoot.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, directed by the Russo Brothers and written by Stephen McFeely. The film boasts a massive returning cast that spans multiple eras of the franchise, including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Pedro Pascal, and Patrick Stewart, alongside Downey Jr.’s reimagined role as Doctor Doom.

Given how directly Clea’s introduction tied into the multiversal crisis that ‘Doomsday’ is reportedly centered around, her return would feel less like a random cameo and more like the culmination of a storyline Marvel has been quietly building since 2022. Fans will have to wait for official confirmation, but the pieces certainly seem to be falling into place.
