Curry Barker Wraps New Horror Film ‘Anything But Ghosts’ Starring Aaron Paul & Bryce Dallas Howard
Curry Barker is making significant strides in Hollywood, and his next project is already set. The 26-year-old director recently shared insights about his burgeoning career in an interview with Variety.
His breakout came with the horror film ‘Milk & Serial,’ a low-budget project released for free on YouTube. This film garnered attention and paved the way for larger productions. His first theatrical release, ‘Obsession,’ is currently being distributed by Focus Features.
Before ‘Obsession’ fully reaches audiences, Barker has already completed filming his next horror movie.
Titled ‘Anything But Ghosts,’ this upcoming film has wrapped production. Barker confirmed in the Variety interview that filming concluded recently, and he has been tirelessly working between projects. He described his schedule as intense, noting it has been months without a break.
This new film represents a significant leap in scale for him. It boasts a star-studded cast, including Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Violet McGraw. Barker is not only directing but also acting in this project.
He explained that while the story involves ghosts, it remains grounded in a real-world context. The narrative focuses on how ordinary people would respond if the impossible became reality. He emphasized that the film prioritizes character behavior and emotional reactions over mere scares.
Barker stated, “It should feel like, what would you do if you discovered ghosts were real? How would you react, and how would that emotionally affect you? These guys are con artists, and they don’t even believe in ghosts. They call themselves ghost hunters, but they’re just glorified magicians.”

He also mentioned that this film differs significantly from ‘Obsession,’ despite both sharing a similar grounded style. For him, the aim is to continually shift tones while remaining within believable worlds.
Barker discussed the experience of working with bigger actors for the first time. Initially, he felt nervous due to his strong vision for how scenes should unfold. However, that changed once production began.
He remarked, “They want to be directed and you’re going to let them down if you don’t give them direction.” He added that both Aaron Paul and Bryce Dallas Howard were easy to collaborate with and receptive to feedback on set.
Barker also revealed that he is already in the early stages of developing another major project following ‘Anything But Ghosts.’ He has been linked to a new version of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ under A24, which he described as a grounded and brutal interpretation of the material. He aims to ensure that audiences connect with the characters before any horror unfolds.
He explained, “It’s gonna be grounded, brutal, raw. It should be very, very uncomfortable.”
With ‘Obsession’ currently in theaters and ‘Anything But Ghosts’ already completed, Barker’s career is rapidly transitioning from online creator to mainstream horror filmmaker. His upcoming projects suggest a commitment to horror, with a strong emphasis on character-driven narratives rather than mere shock or spectacle.
