‘Verity‘ has been generating excitement for months as one of the most intense literary adaptations set to hit theaters this fall. The film’s press tour is now offering fans a glimpse into the chemistry among its three leads. Based on the Colleen Hoover novel, the Amazon MGM Studios thriller follows a struggling writer named Lowen, portrayed by Dakota Johnson, who is brought in to complete a bestselling book series after its original author, Verity Crawford, is unable to write due to a mysterious accident.

Anne Hathaway plays Verity alongside Johnson, with Josh Hartnett completing the central trio as Verity’s husband Jeremy, a character who finds himself at the center of the story’s increasingly complex and disturbing dynamics. Director Michael Showalter’s adaptation delves into the darker, more intimate aspects of the source material, featuring a reported abundance of romantic and physical tension between the characters.

This intensity seems to have extended off-screen as well, coming up during a joint press interview promoting the film ahead of its October 2 release. When asked about the numerous intimate scenes in the movie, which the interviewer humorously described as a “kissathon,” Johnson candidly expressed her enjoyment of working with Hathaway.

“I would kiss Annie [Hathaway] for the rest of my life,” Johnson stated during the ‘Verity’ press tour. This comment quickly went viral on social media, with fans embracing both the straightforwardness of her statement and the playful jab directed at her other co-star.

Johnson further elaborated in the same conversation, saying she would kiss Hathaway “every day” and that she would be there “if you need me,” before cheekily adding “sorry Josh” aimed at Hartnett. Hathaway responded to the “kissathon” description of the shoot by joking that “it’s a miracle nobody got sick,” acknowledging the many takes the cast had to complete together.

Hartnett seemed unfazed by the lack of praise, describing his experience on set with both actresses in warmer terms during the press cycle. He mentioned that the trio shared “a fun working relationship the whole time on set,” noting that despite the film’s dark themes, they spent much of the shoot laughing and having fun between takes.

This kind of easy camaraderie often resonates well with audiences, especially in a film centered around themes of betrayal, obsession, and a crumbling marriage. Viewers tend to appreciate knowing that the actors behind such tense material enjoyed working together. It also aligns with the trend of Colleen Hoover adaptations generating significant social media buzz before their release, given the passionate fanbase surrounding her books.

With ‘Verity’ just weeks away from its theatrical debut, moments like Johnson’s remark are precisely the kind of press tour soundbite that keeps a film’s marketing vibrant leading up to its release. Whether the final product lives up to the chemistry its stars are hinting at remains to be seen, but for now, fans have plenty to speculate about regarding how that on-set closeness will translate to the screen.
