‘Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback’ Reigns at the Box Office During Second Weekend, Live-Action ‘Ya Boy Kongming!’ Debuts as #2 Among Manga-Related FIlms
We have been reporting how Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, the latest movie in the Detective Conan franchise, has been doing great at the Japanese box office and we now have even more information from Japan.
Namely, the numbers related to the weekend box office in Japan have been released and while several new movies came to Japanese cinemas, Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback has managed to retain the first place.
In the rest of this report, we are going to go over the numbers from this weekend and reveal everything you need to know!
So far, we have reported that Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback set the opening-day franchise record with 1.05 billion yen (about US$7.4 million) earned and 690,000 tickets sold. Later, we confirmed that the movie earned 3,438,626,700 yen (about US$24.15 million) over the first weekend and sold 2,314,690 tickets, surpassing the previous record held by Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram.
Now, with the official numbers coming in from Japan for the movie’s second weekend, we can confirm that it has sold a total of 4.31 million tickets for a cumulative total of 6,348,934,800 yen (about US$44.62 million) earned. This means that the movie managed to retain first place at the Japanese box office even during its second weekend.
Interestingly enough, the Ya Boy Kongming! the Movie, the live-action adaptation of the popular manga, ranked at #5 in its opening weekend. The film earned 79,315,720 yen (about US$557,300) in its first three days, which was enough for a solid result.
But, this is an even bigger result, seeing how it is the second-best manga adaptation among all the movies on the list.
