Marvel’s rollout of mutants has become one of the most eagerly awaited developments in the studio’s history, with fans speculating for years about potential castings for major X-Men roles, even before any actor has been officially confirmed.

Storm, in particular, has emerged as a hot topic for fan casting, with names like Cynthia Erivo and Jodi Turner-Smith frequently mentioned as top choices for the weather-manipulating mutant, especially as Marvel prepares to unveil its plans.

This speculation has intensified with a wave of fan art circulating online, showcasing DeWanda Wise as a popular candidate for the role, despite insiders indicating that there is no confirmation of her being in the running. Nonetheless, Wise has been vocal about her desire to take on the part whenever she has the chance.

CoveredGeekly highlighted Wise’s recent comments, revealing just how much she wants to portray Storm. In a clip, the actress stated that Storm is the only Marvel character she is interested in playing, emphasizing that it has always been her sole focus within the Marvel universe and expressing confidence that they will make it happen.

Wise’s connection to the MCU actually goes back several years. She was initially cast as Maria Rambeau in 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel’, but scheduling conflicts with Spike Lee’s Netflix series ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ led to her exit from the project, with Lashana Lynch stepping in. Wise later clarified in an interview with Cinemablend that her departure was not a choice, as she was contractually obligated to prioritize her television role at the time.

Her interest in Storm dates back even further, as evidenced by an Instagram post from 2018 where she encouraged fans to spam Marvel accounts on her behalf, humorously noting that it wasn’t an official casting possibility then but that she would love the role nonetheless. Since that time, her profile has grown significantly, with standout performances in Netflix’s ‘The Harder They Fall’, a notable role in ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ as Kayla, and a starring and executive producing role in the horror film ‘Imaginary’.

Storm has been portrayed on screen by Halle Berry in four of Fox’s original X-Men films, with Alexandra Shipp taking on a younger version of the character in ‘X-Men Apocalypse’ and ‘Dark Phoenix’. The fan response to Wise’s renewed interest has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising her appearance and action background as ideal for the regal and commanding presence the character demands.

Marvel has yet to announce any casting for its version of Storm or provide a definitive timeline for the X-Men’s entry into the MCU. However, Kevin Feige has recently suggested that mutants will start appearing after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ concludes. Until an official announcement is made, it seems Wise is determined to continue advocating for the role publicly, hoping her persistence will eventually lead to the opportunity she has long desired.
