‘Digger’ Star Tom Cruise Expresses Interest in Collaborating With Taylor Swift
Tom Cruise and Taylor Swift have been quite the duo in the spotlight recently. Cruise attended Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce on July 3 at Madison Square Garden, which was officiated by fellow actor Adam Sandler. More recently, on September 14, he was seen in her private suite at Arrowhead Stadium during the Kansas City Chiefs’ season opener against the Denver Broncos.
Their friendship seems to be thriving. During an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on September 17, Cruise humorously mentioned that Swift had educated him on football during the game. He referred to her as a genius he has admired since her childhood and elaborated on their outing during an episode of Travis Kelce’s ‘New Heights’ podcast on September 18.
Cruise has taken his admiration a step further. At the London premiere of his new film ‘Digger’ on September 22, he told BuzzFeed UK that he would be thrilled to collaborate with Swift on a movie and suggested that she has the potential to direct films if she ever decides to pursue that path.
When asked if he would appear in one of Swift’s music videos, Cruise cleverly redirected the conversation back to filmmaking, expressing a desire to create a movie together. Although he didn’t confirm any specific project, he made it clear that he holds her talents in high regard, calling her brilliant and a talented writer.
Tom Cruise praises Taylor’s work and answers whether he’d ever appear in one of her music videos:
“I think she’s such a talent in anything she does.
She’s absolutely brilliant; she’s a brilliant writer.
Her ability to, you know, we were talking about it, and I was like, if she… pic.twitter.com/bFwrl0bILJ— Taylor Swift Updates+ (@chartstswifty) September 22, 2026
He also acknowledged her accomplishments behind the camera, noting that Swift directs her own music videos beautifully and emphasized that collaborating with her would be an incredible experience. This praise coincided with Swift’s announcement of her new single, ‘Patient Zero,’ set to release this Friday.
Cruise’s admiration for Swift is well-founded. She has directed over 15 music videos and has won 4 Best Director awards. In 2021, she made her directorial debut with ‘All Too Well: The Short Film,’ featuring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien, which was showcased at the Tribeca and Toronto film festivals and received a limited theatrical release.
Rumors about a feature film have circulated for some time. In late 2022, it was announced that she would be making her feature directorial debut for Searchlight Pictures, although her record-breaking Eras Tour seems to have delayed those plans. Since then, she directed ‘Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,’ an 89-minute film that premiered alongside her album in October 2025 and grossed $50.1 million at the box office.
The timing of this story adds an extra layer of excitement. Swift is set to receive the inaugural Artist Director Honours at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, an award that celebrates the directing career that Cruise was praising.
Meanwhile, Cruise is busy promoting ‘Digger,’ directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, which is set to release on October 2. During his appearance on Fallon, he was asked about rumors that ‘Digger’ might be a musical. He laughed off the idea but acknowledged that it could be an interesting concept.
