‘Disclosure Day’ Pre-Sales Set Records as One of the Strongest Original Film Launches
Steven Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure Day’ is poised to become one of the most significant original film releases of the decade, with early pre-sales and box office forecasts indicating a substantial opening weekend.
Industry reports reveal that the film’s pre-sales are already among the strongest for any original movie this decade. The sci-fi project is now projected to open domestically between $43 million and $53 million, putting it in direct competition with ‘Sinners’ for the title of the biggest original film launch of the 2020s.
‘Disclosure Day’ is a 2026 science fiction film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg. The screenplay was penned by David Koepp, based on a story by Spielberg himself. The film boasts a major ensemble cast, including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.
The project was first reported in April 2024, when it was disclosed that Spielberg was developing a UFO-themed film with Koepp writing the script. In the following months, Universal Pictures joined as the distributor, and Emily Blunt was cast in the lead role. Production moved swiftly, with filming occurring between February and May 2025 across New York, New Jersey, and Atlanta.
The film premiered at Le Grand Rex in Paris on June 2, with its U.S. theatrical release scheduled for June 12. Ahead of the domestic launch, early estimates from Boxoffice Pro projected an opening weekend in the range of $40 million to $50 million. Another report from Puck suggested that the film may need to surpass the $300 million mark globally to break even.
Initial reactions to the film have been largely positive. Critics have praised Emily Blunt’s performance as one of the standout aspects of the movie. Some early reviews have even described it as “Spielberg’s best film in 20 years,” indicating a strong return to form for the iconic director.
The combination of strong early buzz, a renowned director, and a star-studded cast has propelled ‘Disclosure Day’ into one of the most anticipated releases of 2026. The film’s performance is being monitored not only as a major studio release but also as a crucial test for original science fiction storytelling in today’s box office landscape.
With opening weekend projections on the rise, industry analysts are closely observing whether ‘Disclosure Day’ can meet expectations and potentially become one of Spielberg’s most commercially successful films in recent years.
