Over the years, Disney has created hundreds of loveable and not-so-loveable characters, some with names as memorable as the character themselves. From main character to supporting character, and hero to villain, here is a list of 47 iconic Disney characters whose names start with D.
1. Donald Duck (The Walt Disney Company)
Donald Duck is one of the original Walt Disney Company cartoon characters and is a supporting character to Mckey Mouse. He is the third most famous cartoon character of all time. His debut film, The Wise Little Hen, was released in 1934.
2. Daisy Duck (The Walt Disney Company)
Daisy Duck is Donald Duck’s girlfriend and Minnie Mouse’s best friend. She first appeared as Daisy in 1940 in Mr. Duck Steps Out. She is very stylish and likes shopping, fashion, and parties. She doesn’t like Donald’s temper and often scolds him for it.
3. Drizella Tremaine (Cinderella)
Drizella Tremaine is Cinderella’s stepsister and an antagonist in Cinderella. She is the oldest daughter of Lady Tremaine and sister to Anastasia. She is greedy, lazy, and obnoxious and is depicted as ugly both on the inside and outside.
4. Dumbo (Dumbo)
Dumbo is an elephant and protagonist of the 1941 Disney animated feature Dumbo. He is known for his enormous ears that allow him to fly. His mother is Mrs. Jumbo. He likes to fly and spend time with his mom, and he doesn’t want to be alone or bullied.
5. Dachshie (Lady and the Tramp)
Dachsie is a dachshund with a German accent that Lady meets at The Pound. He likes to dig, howl a lot, and really hates The Pound and wants to escape.
6. Dale (Chip and Dale)
Dale is one-half of the iconic Disney chipmunk duo Chip ‘N Dale. Dale is known for his red nose. He and Chip are brothers and have made several appearances in Disney series and shorts throughout the years.
7. Dang Hu (Raya and the Last Dragon)
Dang Hu is a supporting character in the Disney film Raya and the Last Dragon. She is the chieftess of the Talon tribe and the mother of Dang Hai. Dang Hu may look like a sweet little old lady, but she’s actually evil.
8. Dang Hai (Raya and the Last Dragon)
Another supporting character in Raya, Dang Hai, is the former chief of Talon and son of the current chieftess. He gave into the power of The Druun and was turned to stone.
9. Doc (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)
Doc is the leader of the seven dwarfs in the animated film, which debuted in 1937. Although he stammers and fumbles his way through sentences, he is brilliant, and all of the dwarves (except Grumpy) look up to him and rely on him for guidance.
10. Doc Hudson (Cars)
Doc Hudson is one of the notable characters in the Cars franchise. He is a 1951 Hudson Hornet, former racecar, and both the doctor and judge of Radiator Springs. He makes his debut in the first Cars film but is deceased by the time the events of Cars 2 occur. However, he is featured in flashbacks and on video in Cars 3.
11. Dodger (Oliver and Company)
Dodger is a “street-smart” Jack Russell Terrier in the 1988 animated feature. He is the leader of Fagin’s dog gang. Since the movie is a reimagining of the Dickens Tale Oliver Twist, Dodger is loosely based on the character The Artful Dodger.
12. Dopey (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)
Dopey is the youngest dwarf in Snow White. He does not speak but uses pantomime to communicate. He gets his name from his personality because he is always acting foolish and goofy. However, he is not as unintelligent as he is made out to be, just immature.
13. Dory (Finding Nemo and Finding Dory)
Dory is a ditzy regal blue tang fish that Martin comes across in Finding Nemo. However, she can’t really help how ditzy she is- she suffers from short-term memory loss. Dory was such a beloved character that she got her own feature film, Finding Dory.
14. Daniela Paguro (Luca)
Daniela is a sea monster and Luca’s mother in the Disney/Pixar animated film. She loves the ocean but is afraid of the surface. Her number one rule is for Luca to never go near the surface.
15. Danny (101 Dalmatians)
Danny is a Great Dane who lives in Hampstead and is a minor character in 101 Dalmatians. He is one of the leading communicators in the Twilight Bark and is the dog who tells Missus and Pongo that the pups are at Hell Hall.
16. Dante (Coco)
Dante is a notable character in the animated film Coco. He is a Xolo, which is a hairless dog breed (this is also the national dog of Mexico). He is a stray dog until he is adopted by Miguel.
17. Darla Sherman (Finding Nemo)
Darla is dentist Philip Sherman’s niece in Finding Nemo. Many of the fish see her as a villain because she gets overly excited when her uncle gives her a new fish, shakes the bag they’re in, and has killed fish that way before. She loves to scream “FISHY,” and her favorite fish is a piranha.
18. Darling (Lady and the Tramp)
Named Elizabeth initially, she became known as Darling in Lady and the Tramp because that was how she was known to Lady. She is Jim Dear’s wife and a friend and mother figure to Lady.
19. Darnell (The Princess and the Frog)
Darnell is one of three frog hunters and an antagonist in The Princess and the Frog. He is large, clumsy, and loud and is often viewed as the weakest link of the trio.
20. Dash Parr (The Incredibles)
Dashiell Robert “Dash” Parr is the middle child and oldest son of Bob and Helen Parr in The Incredibles and The Incredibles 2. Dash is very competitive, sometimes a showoff, and super fast. He uses his abilities to pull pranks, and he also loves to aggravate his sister Violet.
21. David Kawena (Lilo and Stitch)
David is Nani’s boyfriend and a good friend to Lilo in the Lilo and Stitch franchise. He is loyal, kind, sometimes clumsy, and a great surfer. David is one of the few human characters who know about the aliens and the experiments.
22. Dawson (The Great Mouse Detective)
Doctor David Q. Dawson, or Dawson, is the associate, assistant, and friend to Basil of Baker Street in The Great Mouse Detective. Since the animated film is a reimagining of Sherlock Holmes, Dawson is based on Watson, while Basil is based on Sherlock.
23. Denahi (Brother Bear)
Denahi is a member of the Inuit people and the main antagonist in Brother Bear. His brother Sitka died fighting a bear, and his brother Kenai disappeared shortly after. Denahi swore to avenge his brother’s death and kill the bear he believed killed Sitka and Kenai, unaware that Kenai was actually turned into a bear.
24. DeSoto (Oliver and Company)
DeSoto is one-half of a duo of antagonists in Oliver and Company. His partner in crime is Roscoe, and they are both Dobermans. DeSoto wears a blue collar, and he is the more vicious of the two.
25. Destiny (Finding Dory)
Destiny is a whale shark and Dory’s childhood friend in Finding Dory. She has terrible eyesight, and this causes her to swim clumsily instead of gracefully. Although she is a shark, she can speak whale.
26. Dez (Soul)
Dez is Joe’s barber, although once upon a time, he wanted to be a veterinarian. He is very friendly and listens to Joe talk about jazz while he cuts his hair. Dez is a big man with an even bigger heart.
27. Diablo (Sleeping Beauty)
Diablo is Maleficent’s accomplice and pet raven, making him one of the antagonists in the film. He is loyal to Maleficent, and she cares deeply for him.
28. Digger (The Rescuers)
Digger is a digging mole and one of The Swamp Folks in The Rescuers. Along with the other Swamp Folks, he aids Bernard and Bianca in helping Penny to escape Medusa.
29. Dim (A Bug’s Life)
Dim is a rhinoceros beetle and a performer in the Circus Troupe. He is the most giant insect in the Troupe and portrays a “beast” in their act, but he is actually childlike, gentle, and sensitive.
30. Dinah (Alice in Wonderland)
Dinah is Alice’s pet kitten. At the beginning of the movie, she is sitting with Alice and her sister, listening to Alice’s sister read a book. She does not go down the rabbit hole with Alice, although Alice does talk about her at the Tea Party. She is sleeping on top of Alice when Alice wakes up from her Wonderland dream.
31. Lord Dingwall (Brave)
Lord Dingwall is short, scrappy, and quick-tempered. He is also the leader of the Clan Dingwall. He likes fighting, watching fights, and winning fights. He does not like being made of, and he doesn’t like bears.
32. Wee Dingwall (Brave)
Wee is Lord Dingwall’s son and heir to the Clan Dingwall. He is also one of Princess Merida’s suitors. He daydreams a lot and likes Merida but doesn’t like being forced to vie for her hand in marriage.
33. Disgust (Inside Out)
Disgust is one of Riley’s five Emotions in Inside Out. She is green in color (but she hates broccoli). She is sarcastic, stubborn, straightforward, opinionated, and fashion conscious. She is also very protective of Riley and anyone or anything that Riley comes into contact with.
34. Djali (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
Djali is Esmerelda’s goat in The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Hunchback of Notre Dame II. He has a tendency to be belligerent and sassy, but he is also helpful and very loyal to Esmerelda. Any enemy of Esmerelda is an enemy of Djali.
35. Django (Ratatouille)
Django is the leader of the rat colony and the father of Remy and Emile. He doesn’t understand Remy’s sense of smell and taste, but he would do anything to protect him when he is in danger. Django loves his sons, saving the other rats, and cooking. He doesn’t care for humans.
36. Dolly (Toy Story 3)
Dolly makes her appearance in the Toy Story franchise in the third installment, and she is a main character in Toy Story 4. She is one of Bonnie’s original toys and sees herself as a leader to all the other toys. She is sarcastic and wise and easily annoyed, especially by Forky.
37. Dolores Madrigal (Encanto)
Dolores is the daughter of Felix and Pepa and sister to Antonio and Camilo. She is Isabela, Luisa and Mirabel’s cousin. Her gift is enhanced hearing, and she can hear everything literally. She likes parties, poetry, and knowing everyone’s business. She doesn’t like it when her family doesn’t get along.
38. Doris (Meet the Robinsons)
DOR-15, or Doris, is an antagonist in Meet the Robinsons. She was initially invented by Cornelius as a helping hat to help whoever was wearing it. Cornelius deactivated her when she started trying to control others. She reactivated herself and escaped and teamed up with Bowler Hat Guy to get revenge on the Robinsons.
39. Dorothea Williams (Soul)
Dorothea is a talented sax player and the leader of The Dorothea Williams Quartet. She loves jazz and mentoring others. She doesn’t like Joe at first, but she eventually helps him pursue his dream of playing with her before he passes.
40. Dot (A Bug’s Life)
Dot is princess of the ant colony, but her older sister is the heir to the throne. She also makes a cameo appearance in Toy Story 2! She is a member of the Blueberries. She likes Flik and flying, although she can’t fly at first because her wings are so tiny.
41. Duchess (The Aristocats)
Duchess is a beautiful and elegant Turkish Angora cat owned by Madame Adelaide Bonfamille. She is the mother of Berlioz, Marie, and Toulouse. She is kind to everyone, loves milk, dancing, and her children. She does not like to be away from her children.
42. Ducky (Toy Story 4)
Ducky is one half of a duo of carnival toys, Ducky and Bunny, in Toy Story 4. In the film, the two toys are attached. Ducky and Bunny are prizes at a carnival and just want to be taken home by a kid who they can call their owner.
43. Dug (Up)
Dug is a happy and friendly golden retriever who originally belonged to Charles Muntz and then becomes attached to Carl Fredericksen in Up. Carl is hesitant at first, but he eventually gives in and becomes Dug’s new master. Charles created a unique collar for Dug that gave him the ability to talk by translating his thoughts into speech.
44. Duke Caboom (Toy Story 4)
Duke Caboom is a major character in Toy Story 4. Duke is a 1970s action figure who is based on a Canadian daredevil and stuntman. He can’t actually do any of the stunts that the real-life Caboom can do, but he is really good at striking cool stunt poses.
45. Duke of Weselton (Frozen)
The Duke of Weselton is one of the antagonists in the animated movie Frozen. He attended Elsa’s coronation at Arendelle, intending to take advantage of the kingdom’s riches and secrets and use them for his benefit. However, he is terrified of magic, and when Elsa’s powers are revealed, he calls her a monster and sets out to get rid of her.
46. Deb (Finding Nemo)
In Finding Nemo, Deb is a blue and white humbug fish that the dentist receives in the mail and puts in his fish tank. She thinks that her reflection in the tank glass is her twin sister, Flo.
47. Demetrius (Hercules)
Demetrius sells pottery in a marketplace close to where Hercules grew up. Although Hercules was strong, he was also clumsy, and Demetrius was always afraid Hercules was going to break something of his. He likes money and selling things and doesn’t care much for Hercules.
