Disney’s ‘Hexed’ Unveils New Artwork Featuring Hailee Steinfeld and Walton Goggins
Disney Animation has been gradually revealing details about its upcoming original theatrical feature, a coming-of-age fantasy that diverges from traditional fairy tale elements for something more contemporary and unique. What started as a mysterious project at last year’s Destination D23 has transformed into one of the studio’s most anticipated releases.
The film, titled ‘Hexed,’ is an original animated dramedy that follows Billie Doe, an impulsive teenage girl voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. Her ordinary suburban life is turned upside down when she discovers hidden magical abilities, thrusting her into Hexe, a vast realm of witches. Alongside her cautious mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, Billie must unravel family secrets that could alter the magical world forever.
Recently, Disney shared a new look at two of the film’s main characters, showcasing Billie with her sidekick, Beef Roger Crummchuk, a three-eyed green cat voiced by Walton Goggins. The artwork features the duo in a cluttered, candlelit room filled with spellbooks, potion ingredients, and a bubbling cauldron, providing fans with a clear glimpse of the film’s enchanting visual style.
Goggins’ role as the whimsically named feline sidekick was one of the more surprising announcements during Disney’s D23 presentation earlier this month. The event also revealed that two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster would voice the film’s antagonist, Queen Celeste. This role marks a nostalgic return for Foster, whose history with Disney dates back to her early career projects like ‘Napoleon and Samantha’ and the original ‘Freaky Friday.’
The voice cast also includes Tracey Ullman as Ms. Quill, an enchanted talking quill pen, and Stephen Fry as Elias Quire, a magical sentient journal who joins Billie on her adventure through Hexe. This ensemble reflects Disney’s ongoing commitment to blending established stars with quirky character concepts in its original animated films.
‘Hexed’ is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn, known for her work on 2023’s ‘Wish,’ alongside Jason Hand, who contributed to ‘Moana 2.’ Josie Trinidad co-directs after her involvement with the ‘Zootopia+’ series. This film marks Disney Animation’s sixty-fifth theatrical feature, continuing a tradition of original stories that have become increasingly rare in an industry focused on sequels and franchise expansions.
The film’s concept has evolved significantly since its initial announcement. Originally revealed at Destination D23 in August 2025 as a story about an awkward teenage boy and his type-A mother discovering his magical traits, the narrative was updated during Disney’s CinemaCon presentation to center on Billie, the impulsive teen girl audiences will soon meet.
This shift in direction, along with a steady stream of character reveals throughout the year, indicates that Disney is strategically building excitement for what could be another significant addition to its animated lineup. With ‘Hexed’ set to hit theaters exclusively on November 25, audiences won’t have to wait long to see if the film’s unique mix of witchcraft and suburban humor lives up to its vibrant cast of characters.
